Okay Raider Nation, I'll admit it. I almost had an aneurysm after last Sunday's second half collapse against the Buffalo Bills. Five touchdowns in five possessions? Oh man, that really kicked me in the gut.
And I was deservedly chastised by the Raider Nation for that article. While I still have my doubts that the Raiders can win 10 or 11 games, they are an improved team that is slowly getting better.
I forgot all about all the good things Al Davis has done for the Raiders, and how the last couple of years the Raiders have actually drafted some real gems like Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore. And yes, I realize Al most likely had the final say in those draft picks.
But I am over it now. I realize the Raiders have actually improved over the past couple of years, despite the second half collapse in Buffalo.
They did defeat the Broncos in a divisional game on the road. That was a good thing. While I wasn't completely satisfied with the play of the Raiders in Denver (penalties, lack of offense other than Darren McFadden, etc.), they did win the game.
And I actually think the Raiders have a chance to be 2-1 after Sunday's game.
While I am not going to go into all the technical explanations of why I think they are going to win Sunday, I will give you a couple of reasons why I think they will defeat the Jets.
The first is that it is their home opener. This Raiders team will be very motivated to come out and win one for the Raider Nation on Sunday. After two road games, I believe this team will really show up on Sunday and play a tough, well played game.
The other reason I think the Raiders will win Sunday is because during the past couple of years of the rebuilding process, the Raiders have followed a pattern. If they win a big game they sometimes come out flat the next week. If they have a tough, embarrassing loss they usually come out the following week with a lot of determination—especially against a good team—and win.
Well, I believe they were completely embarrassed after Sunday's loss in Buffalo, and I think they will come out Sunday on a mission to win, and redeem themselves.
While the Jets are a good team, I think if the Raiders come out Sunday with their 'A' game they can definitely win.
I do think it will be a close, hard fought game though. The Raiders will have to put together four complete quarters of football if they expect to win Sunday. But I really believe they will play hard for the complete game—they want redemption after last Sunday.
I know there is a chance that they may not win Sunday. The Jets are a good team, but as long as the Raiders play hard and give a good effort on Sunday I will be okay with it.
However, I have a feeling Mark Sanchez won't be eating any hot dogs on the sidelines this Sunday.
