NFL Free Agents Signings: Tracking the Moves of All 32 Teams

0 of 32

As soon as the NFL lockout was lifted and the NFLPA agreed to the new 10-year deal, there has been a flurry of free agent activity, both coming and going, as NFL general managers attempt to understand what the new rules are for the 2011 season. Teams will be scrambling to fill up their rosters to the 90-player limit capacity.

This slideshow is designed to cover every NFL team and keep track of every team move over the next two to three weeks, which is essentially the majority of the free-agency period. For the free agency period, we will assign a grade, similar to the review of how each team did at the draft. Please note that the grade will change throughout free agency, based on who is signed and who is lost.

So if you are feeling overwhelmed trying to keep up with all the action, just come back to this guide to stay on top of what your team is doing. We will do our best to separate the rumor and gossip from fact. The NFL transactions for each team will stay updated daily until we reach the beginning of preseason games.

    Grade So Far: B+

Now that the Cardinals have secured Kevin Kolb, they need to add some more weapons to go with Larry Fitzgerald. Cardinals added some nice depth to their secondary this week.

2 of 32

    Grade So Far: A-

Falcons have retained their LB corp from last year, but we still need to see overall improvement from the 2010 defense that gave up a ton of yards and points to Green Bay in the playoffs.Signing Ray Edwards to improve the pass rush is a good move. Edwards will have to prove that he can put up numbers without help from his fellow defensive linemen. Good move by keeping Clabo and Blalock on the offensive line.

    Grade So Far: A +.

Ravens cut the veterans that were thought to be under-performing, or not bringing high value per their contract. The freed up money allowed Baltimore to retain high-priority lineman Marshall Yanda. Nice move by the Ravens to add Ricky Williams to strengthen their running back committee and adding Lee Evans gives Joe Flacco a better mix of receivers to stretch the field.

4 of 32

August 15: Bills waived LB Aaron Maybin. Ex-Bills CB Ashton Youboty signed a deal with Tampa Bay.

August 12: Bills traded WR Lee Evans to the Baltimore Ravens for a fourth-round draft pick in 2012.

Bills signed the following undrafted rookie free agents: CB Domonic Cook, (U of Buffalo), LS Danny Aiken (Virginia), K Chris Hazley (Virginia Tech), P Reid Forrest (Washington St.), WR Kamar Aiken (Central Florida), S Rajric Coleman (Utah St.), OLB Robert Eddins (Ball St.), SS Sidney Glover (West Virginia), ILB Brandon Hicks (Florida), ILB Brad Jefferson (Georgia Tech), DE T.J. Langley (Arkansas St.), CB Loyce Means (Houston), CB Doyle Miller (Nevada), RB Vai Taua (Nevada), RB Emmanuel Moody (Florida), QB/SS Joshua Nesbit (Georgia Tech), TE Zach Pianalto (North Carolina), G Michael Switzer (Ball St.) and T Isaiah Thompson (Houston).

    Grade So Far: B

Landing Tyler Thigpen gives the Bills a reliable QB to back up Ryan Fitzpatrick, but losing Paul Posluszny, who was a leader on and off the field, is a big loss to a defense that was hurting already. Adding Florence helps to ease the pain of losing Posluszny. Bills swung for the fences with Tyson Clabo and came up just short.

    Grade So Far: A

Signing Johnson was important to keep a key member of the defense on board, but it came at a premium price. Panthers have done a very good job of identifying their core players and going after them with an aggressive style to show that they are wanted and valued. More teams should take this approach. Signing Naanee gives the Panthers and Newton one more target for the offense, a good move.

Neither Andy Dalton or Bruce Gradkowski are not going to replace Carson Palmer this year. Losing Jonathan Joseph hurts, but picking up Nate Clements will help to overcome the pain. Grade So Far: A-

The Lions have upgraded their defense with the signings of Justin Durant, Stephen Tulloch and Eric Wright. These moves were needed to allow the back seven to play at a level closer to that of their front four. Tough break for the Lions to suffer major injuries so early to key rookies like LeShoure and Fairley.

    Grade So Far:  C

Packers really haven't done anything to speak of regarding signing new free agents. With all of their depth acquired from last year, they may not need to. But if they don't try to improve, we can't reward them for sitting still either.

    Grade So Far: B-

The Colts got the Peyton Manning deal done, and with Peyton's attitude towards being creative with salary cap, he is putting the team's needs before his own. After losing Session, the Colts are going backwards during the free agency period.

    Grade So Far: A

Signing Posluszny and Session are major deals that immediately upgrades the Jaguars' defense, but did they overpay? It is possible that the big deal for Posluszny may have left the Jaguars without enough room in their budget to keep Justin Durrant and Adam Podlesh. Jaguars made a smart move by signing Marcedes Lewis to a long-term deal.

    Grade So Far: B+

If Breaston can stay healthy, this could be a great move by the Chiefs, allowing for another qualified receiver that can open up some situations for Dwayne Bowe and Jonathan Baldwin. Chiefs have added some new talent and depth to their defense with the additions of Gregg and Siler. Securing Tamba Hali was a smart move and should pay dividends going forward.

Jones, OL, Nebraska; Jonathan Freeny, DE, Rutgers; Vince Agnew, CB, Central Michigan; Phillip Livas, WR/KR, Louisiana Tech

    Grade So Far: B+

Landing Reggie Bush will bring some life to the Dolphins offense. Between the deals that brought in Matt Moore and Kevin Burnett, the Dolphins have made some moves that are helping the overall roster and depth, not to mention competition in camp.

    Grade so far: B

Bringing in Donovan McNabb gives Christian Ponder his mentor and assures he will receive more coaching before he is thrown in to the fire. Vikings will be more competitive this year as a result. That good feeling quickly changed when the Vikings lost Sidney Rice to Seattle. The Vikings need to find an impact WR to take his place. Will Michael Jenkins or Bernard Berrian step up to be that impact guy?

    Grade So Far: A

Getting Haynesworth for a fifth-round draft pick might turn out to be one of the shrewdest moves of the offseason, or not. Follow that up with the low-risk trade for Chad Ochocinco. Leave it to Bill Belichick to pull that off. Looks like Belichick erred on Marcus Stroud though. Bringing back Light and Mankins to give Brady strong protection was a solid move.

    Grade So Far: B+

Saints wanted to bring back Lance Moore as a target for Drew Brees. Keeping Bushrod is a good move and getting some value for Reggie Bush was also a good move. Darren Sproles will basically replace Bush. Aubrayo Franklin is a great addition for the defensive line. DeAndre McDaniel could be a nice find for an undrafted rookie free agent. When I interviewed C.J. Spiller a year ago, he predicted that McDaniel would be a player in the NFL.

    Grade So Far: B +

Extending Coughlin to prevent him from being a lame duck was a smart move, as was picking up Mark Herzlich to see what he can still do. Getting Bradshaw signed to long-term deal secures Giants ability to have strong running game.

    Grade So Far: A-

Landing Holmes was one important move, but lost out on Asomugha and may not be able to sign Braylon Edwards either. Takes some of the luster off of the expectations that 2011 could be the year. Landing Plaxico Burress and Antonio Cromartie are good deals for Jets, as was Tomlinson restructuring his contract. Things are looking up again for Jets.

    Grade So Far: C

Where are the free agent deals Oakland? Surely they can do better than Trent Edwards. Raiders have lost Zack Miller and Nnamdi Osamugha. Raiders finally made some moves to provide depth to their offensive line on August 3, but overall free agency grade reflects a lack of big moves by the team. Bringing in Kevin Boss to replace Miller helps, but it was a big loss.

    Grade So Far: A+

Could things have possibly worked out any better for Philadelphia? They add impact players in Asomugha, Rogers-Cromartie, Cullen Jenkins, Jason Babin, Ronnie Brown and Vince Young. Not only that but they get a high draft pick for a QB that was probably going to sit the bench for most of the year. Things are lining up well for Philadelphia for 2011, but they need to find a way to make DeSean Jackson happy. This could finally be the Eagles Super Bowl year.

    Grade So Far: B

Steelers did not have a ton of needs. Bringing back one of the better corners in Ike Taylor was a great move by Steelers. Kept some continuity for offensive line by bringing back Colon.

    Grade So Far: B.

Landing a talented LB in Takeo Spikes, who still has life left, was a great deal for the Chargers. Bringing back Weddle is a great move, but not sure he is worth that kind of money. That deal could wind up backfiring on the Chargers if they can't re-sign some of their free agent linebackers as a result. Chargers were able to keep Malcom Floyd, so the offense shouldn't miss any beats.

    Grade So Far: B

Bringing back Alex Smith for another year makes sense and lets Colin Kaepernick observe from the sidelines. Losing LB Takeo Spikes, Nate Clements and Aubrayo Franklin hurts the defense, but landing Donte Whitner and Carlos Rogers eases the blow. Braylon Edwards adds a weapon to the offense.

    Grade So Far: A-

The Seahawks have basically washed their hands of Matt Hasselbeck and gone with Tarvaris Jackson. Is this a move that puts them in line for Andrew Luck in 2012? Jackson is a downgrade from Hasselbeck.  The Seahawks now have some weapons in place with Sidney Rice and Zack Miller.  Their offensive line continues to be rebuilt and will be a force moving forward. The biggest question now is if Tarvaris Jackson can run the offense well enough to win the NFC West.

    Grade So Far: B+

Rams came out with a splash early with Quintin Mikell deal, and then have added lineman Harvey Dahl and WR Sims-Walker. That is better. The Rams now have a more complete backfield with the additions of Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood. The Rams might well be a force in the NFC West this year.

Bucs have signed the following undrafted rookie free agents: Derrell Smith, LB, Syracuse; Raymond Webber, WR, Arkansas-Pine Bluff

    Grade So Far: B-

With lots of room under the cap, we are waiting for the Bucs to make a big splash in free agency. It hasn't happened yet. Getting Davin Joseph booked to a long-term deal is a good start.

Titans have signed the following undrafted rookie free agents: Jonathan Cornell, LB, Mississippi; Chad Cunningham, P, Tennessee; Cameron Graham, TE, Louisville; Thomas Gray, G, Samford; Patrick Hill, FB, Miami; Joseph Hills, WR, Tennessee State; Julian Hartsell, DE, Catawba; Anquez Jackson, G, Alabama A&M; James Kirkendoll, WR, Texas; Lequan Lewis, CB, Arizona State; Orentha Murdock, WR, Fort Hays State; Michael Preston, WR, Heidelberg College; Owen Spencer, WR, NC State; John Stokes, LS, Vanderbilt

    Grade So Far:  A-

Signing Matt Hasselbeck to start, and serve as mentor to Jake Locker makes tremendous sense. Tennessee will now be more competitive as a result, and this may influence Chris Johnson to come to terms sooner than later.  Losing Jason Babin hurts, but the Titans seem to have enough depth to overcome the loss.

They also received three potential draft picks in the McNabb and Haynesworth deals in addition to removing some locker room distractions. After the deals on the 28th, it seems like the Redskins have turned over their entire team. Let's see how quickly this can all come together.
