NFL Trade Speculation: 5 Potential Landing Spots for Eagles QB Kevin Kolb
Kevin Kolb is going to be traded this offseason—mark it down.
The rumors and rumblings about him leaving Philadelphia are just too great to ignore. Kolb believes he is a starter in this league and even went into last season as one. His unfortunate injury demoted him to backup, as he watched the Michael Vick experience unfold before his eyes.
Kolb, a second-round pick in 2007, has waited patiently for four years now to get his chance as a full-time starter. It is obvious that Philadelphia is never going to be the place for this to happen. A change of scenery will do both Kolb and Philly well, as the two parties both need to move on before the situation becomes cancerous in the locker room and media.
There are a number of teams that are in the market for a quarterback with NFL experience and potential. Kolb is only going to be 27-years-old at the start of the 2011-2012 NFL season and is primed for a break out year. He only has seven starts under his belt in four seasons and has plenty of games left in the tank. His career is only beginning despite a late start due to unfortunate circumstances.
Kolb has veteran experience with a rookie’s mileage. He should be the No. 1 most coveted quarterback this offseason, and these five teams should put the pressure on Philly to trade him their way.
5. Miami Dolphins
1 of 5The Miami Dolphins thought they had the answer at QB with Chad Henne, but it is becoming more and more apparent that he is probably a bust. He started the past two seasons and has yet to throw more touchdowns than interceptions.
His quarterback rating has never gone above 75.4 and has been underwhelming despite having solid receivers like Brandon Marshall and Devone Bess to throw at.
Kolb would breath new life into a Miami team that has fallen off in the AFC East recently. He may have less experience than Henne, but it is hard to ignore how awful Henne really is.
4. Oakland Raiders
2 of 5Jason Campbell is a former first-round pick of the Washington Redskins. The team was so disenchanted with him that they traded him to the Oakland Raiders for a fourth rounder.
Campbell began the year as the starting quarterback for the team but was benched in the second game, deferring to Brad Gradkowski. He would not start again until after Gradkowski got injured.
Campbell is clearly not the guy to lead the Raiders back to relevance. They need to move forward and trade for Kolb if they can. He would give them a real chance at contending in the AFC West.
3. Washington Redskins
3 of 5Would Kolb become the second quarterback in two years to move from the Eagles to division rival Redskins? It's certainly possible.
Donovan McNabb and Mike Shanahan seemingly hate one another at this point, and McNabb should see himself cut or traded very soon. The team only has Rex Grossman as a viable option under center, and he has proven to be a temporary fix at best.
Kolb would follow McNabb's footsteps out of Philly and into the Redskins starting line up. Hopefully it turns out better for him than his predecessor.
2. Seattle Seahawks
4 of 5Seattle would be one of the best situations for Kolb to land in. The 'Hawks seem to believe the feeling is mutual. Reports are floating about that the team may have offered the Eagles a first and third-round draft pick before the lockout.
Even if the Seahawks do not go through with the trade, it certainly drives up Kolb's value in case a certain division rival wants to make a push for him.
Matt Hasselbeck is a free agent and may not be returning to Seattle. He, along with Charlie Whitehurst, helped lead the team to a playoff appearance despite a 7-9 record.
If they could find a consistent, young quarterback like Kolb projects to be, look for the Seahawks to contend in a weak NFC West for a while to come.
1. Arizona Cardinals
5 of 5Arizona is the best landing spot for Kolb and also the most practical.
The Cardinals have a great trading piece, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who recently became expendable when the club drafted Patrick Peterson.
Kolb would help a team that has been without an identity on offense since the loss of Kurt Warner.
The receiving corps in the desert is amazing, anchored by the Hall of Fame-caliber wideout, Larry Fitzgerald. He would help groom Kolb into a starting quarterback in this league.
Look for a deal between the Eagles and Cardinals to begin getting hashed out as soon as the lockout is lifted.
