Updated NFL Fantasy Football Rankings, Week 14: Top 50 RBs for the Rest of 2010

Nick CaronDec 10, 2010

Apparently I made a mistake last week when I bumped Adrian Peterson down to ninth among running backs following the news that he was battling injuries that might keep him out some time. All he did was explode for Week 13’s biggest fantasy game—enough to put him back at his original spot as the second-ranked running back.

Peterson might be a little slowed, but it didn’t stop him from getting into the end zone three times while rushing for over 100 yards. He is healthier this week and while he isn’t playing quite as easy of a matchup, it doesn’t seem to matter what defense he plays—he’s a fantasy stud who must be in everyone’s lineup.

Rashard Mendenhall disappointed fantasy owners last week when he ran for just 45 yards with no touchdowns against a tough, but not unbeatable Baltimore Ravens defense. While he does face an easier matchup against the Bengals in Week 14, he does have two difficult matchups against the Jets and Browns remaining.

The Steelers offensive line hasn’t been playing as well as of late and if he can’t find running lanes, it’s going to be tough for him to be putting up elite fantasy numbers. He remains a must-start as the 6th ranked running back, but the huge games may not be coming.

It appeared for a few weeks like Mike Goodson may be the only fantasy-relevant player in the Carolina Panthers offense, but that appears to be over. Goodson took just three carries in Week 13 as he conceded almost all of his touches to the apparently now healthy Jonathan Stewart.

Stewart, who has played the role of fantasy playoff stud in the past, has now run for 90-plus yards in two straight games while rushing for a touchdown during last Sunday’s contest. Stewart’s value skyrockets to 27th while Goodson’s plummets down 16 spots to 44th.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis is now establishing himself as an every-week starter. Both his and his partner-in-crime Danny Woodhead and he have been putting up nice numbers lately, but Green-Ellis’ five touchdowns in the past three weeks make him a particularly great option in touchdown-heavy leagues. Green-Ellis is up three spots to 13th among running backs while Woodhead is not far behind, moving up seven spots to 25th.

The last of the big risers this week was New Orleans Saints running back Chris Ivory, who apparently has decided to start finding the end zone now that fantasy owners really need him.

His five touchdowns in the past three weeks are huge from a guy who didn’t score at all until that point and even if Pierre Thomas does make a return soon, the Saints will likely still need Ivory to take quite a few carries. His value continues to rise as he moves up to 28th.
