Week 5 NFL Picks: Odds Predictions and Top Prop Bets for Full Schedule
A dominant team has yet to emerge as the NFL regular season passes by the quarter pole. The reigning champion Denver Broncos along with the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles remain unbeaten, but none of them have an aura of invincibility—at least not yet.
There are some terrific games on tap for Week 5 that should help in the process of identifying those potential Super Bowl contenders. Two of the best will see the Vikings take on the Houston Texans and the Broncos host the Atlanta Falcons.
Let's check out the entire remaining slate for this week's action, including odds and spread predictions for each contest. That's followed by a look at the updated Super Bowl lines and a breakdown of the most worthwhile picks.

Top Selections
Week 5: New England Patriots (-10.5)
The Patriots are coming off a forgettable 16-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills, but their outlook is still as positive as any team in the league. They went 3-1 with quarterback Tom Brady sidelined due to suspension and tight end Rob Gronkowski extremely limited due to injury.
Now Brady is set to return for Sunday's clash with the Cleveland Browns, and his favorite target expressed optimism that it's finally "go time" as his hamstring moves closer to full strength. In other words, New England's 19th-ranked offense should be ready to take off.
The other, more intangible factor is the quarterback's mindset. Former Michigan teammate and longtime friend Aaron Shea told Ian O'Connor of ESPN.com the rest of the NFL can expect to see a motivated Brady for the rest of the season:
"I think Deflategate hurt Tommy a lot more than he'll let anyone know. We barely talked about the details other than a lot of f-bombs going back and forth. But now you've pissed off the GOAT [greatest of all time]. I grew up in Illinois, and if you got under Michael Jordan's skin, he would score 50 or 60 on you. This is only going to make Tom better. It's going to hurt the other 31 teams because Tom is healthy, he didn't have to take any hits the first four games, and now he's angry.
"
In addition, it's important to remember how good the Patriots are even when Brady is out of the lineup. No NFL head coach is better at putting his players—whoever is available for any given week—in a position to succeed than Bill Belichick, as a chart from NFL Stats helped showcase:
It all adds up to the 0-4 Browns feeling the wrath this week. They rank 26th in scoring offense and 27th in scoring defense, giving them little chance to slow down or keep pace with the Patriots. New England should win by at least two touchdowns.
Super Bowl: Seattle Seahawks (9-1)
Making a Super Bowl selection this far in advance is all about finding value. The Patriots are the rightful favorite, but so many things can happen between now and February that 3-1 odds doesn't leave a lot of upside, despite the team's aforementioned solid start without Brady.
The Seahawks represent the best of both worlds. They are a team trending in the right direction with odds that are still high enough to give them value.
Seattle is 3-1, and it's starting to look more like the team that made back-to-back Super Bowl appearances at the end of the 2013 and 2014 seasons. More specifically, the defense ranks second in yards allowed in large part due to a stingy secondary.
Chawk Talk passed along comments head coach Pete Carroll made during a radio appearance on 710 ESPN Seattle about the state of his group as the players enjoy their Week 5 bye.
"I'm pretty fired up about our team right now," Carroll said. "We're excited about turning the corner and going to the second quarter. We're ready to do this."
While the offense only ranks in the middle of the pack, having Russell Wilson under center gives the Seahawks an advantage over most opponents. And the rushing attack still has some untapped potential as things continue to fall into place in the post-Marshawn Lynch era.
That said, offensive line play is the one thing that must improve if they are going to make a run toward another Super Bowl title, as Pro Football Focus spotlighted:
The Seahawks have a clear path to the playoffs with the Arizona Cardinals struggling and the Los Angeles Rams unlikely to maintain their hot start. So between the likelihood of making the postseason, playoff experience and the star power on the roster, they're the best choice on the board right now.
