Fantasy Football Week 7: Friday's Daily Fantasy Market Report

Richard JanvrinOct 21, 2016

Here we are—the start to Week 7 of the NFL and fantasy football season has already begun with a commanding 26-10 Green Bay Packers win over the Chicago Bears. Not only did the Bears lose quarterback Brian Hoyer to a broken arm, but we were all forced to witness the atrocity that is Matt Barkley. Oh well.

Fair warning: There are a ton of practice updates here, so don't get mad at me. After all, that's kind of the point of these Daily Fantasy Market Reports.

There are quite a few injuries this week. It was fairly quiet up until Thursday before all the practice reports flooded the internet.

Anyway, injuries always allow for lower-priced players' value to increase, allowing for more flexibility in roster construction.

For example, I have one lineup in which I'm playing Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green because of the lower-priced players I'm rostering.

Having trouble figuring out who to roster? Look not further! (Man that was cheesy).

Let's go.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy to Be a Game-Time Decision in Week 7

1 of 11

According to John Wawrow of the Associated Press, Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy will be a game-time decision.

Here are the results days before the game: Shady is not playing.

We can be hopeful, but that is about as good as it is going to get with McCoy.

Fellow running back Mike Gillislee ($3,000 DraftKings; $5,300 FanDuel) will be the lead dog if (when) McCoy is ultimately ruled out.

Gillislee is super cheap this week on DFS, so he's definitely worth a roster spot if (when) we find out McCoy is 100 percent ruled out.

Don't fall for the smoke screen.

Browns WR Terrelle Pryor DNP Thursday; HC Hue Jackson 'Very Hopeful'

2 of 11

Same stuff, different day.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Terrelle Pryor did not practice again on Thursday, but the team and head coach Hue Jackson are "optimistic" Pryor will suit up in Week 7.

Nothing has changed from Thursday's Daily Fantasy Market Report—tight end Gary Barnidge ($3,200 DK; $5,200 FD) is the go-to guy if Pryor sits and is rosterable based on his expected target volume along with the Cincinnati Bengals giving up the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends.

Redskins WR DeSean Jackson DNP Thursday

3 of 11

After missing practice Wednesday, Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson was still absent from practice on Thursday, according to John Keim of ESPN.com.

Like most guys who fail to practice later in the week, it's not looking good for DJax.

If he and tight end Jordan Reed (who we'll get to in the next slide) are unable to go, expect fellow wide receivers Pierre Garcon ($3,700 DK; $6,100 FD) and Jamison Crowder ($4,300 DK; $6,200 FD) to get more looks against the Detroit Lions in Week 7.

Out of the two and based on their respective prices, I'd rather have Crowder for his big-play ability, but Garcon's target volume is also appetizing.

Redskins TE Jordan Reed DNP Thursday

4 of 11

After participating in individual drills on Wednesday, Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed was not at practice on Thursday, according to John Keim of ESPN.com.

It was encouraging to see Reed doing some individual work earlier in the week, but I'm not sure anyone actually expected him to play this week.

Like Week 6, fellow tight end Vernon Davis will get the start, but wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Jamison Crowder are the relevant players in DFS.

Lions RB Theo Riddick DNP Thursday

5 of 11

According to Kyle Meinke of MLive Media Group, Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick ($5,200 DK; $6,300 FD) did not practice on Thursday.

At this point it's about as close as a player can get to being ruled out without being officially "ruled out."

Friday is the last day to get practice in before Week 7.

It's simple here: If Riddick practices, even on a limited basis, he should play.

In the event Riddick is out, fellow running back Dwayne Washington ($3,800 DK; $5,300 FD) figures to be the lead back, although he's coming off a couple of injuries that kept him out of Week 6.

This Lions-Redskins showdown could be quite the shootout.

Shootouts equal passes—something Riddick is good at catching.

If he plays, I'm playing him in a few lineups.

Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr. DNP Thursday

6 of 11

It appears we might be without Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. for the second week in a row.

According to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, the wily veteran did not practice on Thursday.

Given how painful his injury looked, this should not come as a surprise.

The Ravens will be on the road (well, kind of—they played at MetLife Stadium in Week 6, too) against the New York Jets.

Right now, the Jets are in absolute shambles and bare almost no resemblance to the 10-win team from a year ago.

It's the same plan as last week here: fellow wide receiver Kamar Aiken ($3,700 DK; $5,300 FD).

The Jets give up the third-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, so this could be a nice game for Aiken. He's a great tournament play.

Raiders RB Latavius Murray Limited in Practice Thursday

7 of 11

Good new for Oakland Raiders running back Latavius Murray, bad news for DFS players.

According to Adam Caplan of ESPN.com, Murray is expected to play in Week 7 barring a setback.

However, he'll be rejoining a rather crowded backfield.

Since his absence, fellow running backs DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard have stepped in, and while Washington hasn't been that effective, Richard has proved his worth in the passing game.

Prior to his injury, Murray was playing 50 percent of his team's snaps, thus making him touchdown-dependent for any return on value.

Steer clear of the Raiders backfield in Week 7, even though it is playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ravens QB Joe Flacco DNP Thursday; Availability for Week 7 Cloudy

8 of 11

If there was one game for the Baltimore Ravens to be without quarterback Joe Flacco, this is the one, as they are going up against the New York Jets.

According to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, Flacco was not present at practice once again on Thursday. Throughout his career, Flacco hasn't popped up on the practice report often for missing practices, so it's definitely alarming.

However, the light at the end of the tunnel here comes in the form of Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reporting it's "50/50" if he'll play.

Going up against a Jets team that is in complete disarray and is turning to its not-so-good backup quarterback in Geno Smith may be an OK game to sit Flacco. The downside, of course, is the team could lose and slip to 3-4.

If Flacco is unable to go, backup quarterback Ryan Mallett will assume the starting role.

Something of note: I tweeted an interesting stat out regarding Mallett's completion percentage against no pressure and the Jets' pass-rushing woes.

It's something else to keep in mind.

If Mallett starts, no, he's not Flacco, but given the matchup, the receivers shouldn't drop in value as much as you'd think when going to a backup quarterback.

Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. Limited in Practice Thursday

9 of 11

Contrary to a report from Kimberly Jones of NFL Network, it turns out New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,900 DK; $8,600 FD) was able to get in a limited practice after all, according to the team's Twitter account.

All systems go here. He's an elite option this week in London against the Los Angeles Rams.

Bills WR Robert Woods DNP Thursday

10 of 11

This is not good for the Buffalo Bills.

According to Mike Rodak of ESPN.com, Bills wide receiver Robert Woods is still in a walking boot but is doing "everything possible" to get ready for Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins.

It's highly unlikely he'll play.

The fact that Woods has yet to even test the foot and is still in a walking boot on Thursday should immediately sound alarms.

Not only are the Bills set to be without Woods, but they're also missing fellow wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who has been dealing with his fair share of foot injuries, too.

This would leave Marquise Goodwin, Walt Powell, Justin Hunter and Brandon Tate as the team's receiving core.

Laugh out loud.

I must say, it seems like Hunter has been catching touchdowns passes all the time since coming to the Bills, but against the Dolphins, I'll take my chances with tight end Charles Clay ($3,000 DK; $5,100 FD).

Not only did Clay used to play for the Dolphins, but Miami gives up the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends.

That's not exactly anything to get excited about, but with running back LeSean McCoy out, the Bills are going to have to create yardage somehow, and Clay is probably the go-to this week.

He's not at all expensive—a great GPP play.

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer Limited in Practice Thursday

11 of 11

According to Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer got in a limited practice on Thursday, despite earlier reports of him not practicing.

It turns out Palmer did some light throwing on the sidelines.

Yay.

Anyway, let me give it to you straight: Palmer sucks.

He absolutely, positively stinks this season and is on the road against the Seattle Seahawks?

Get out of here with that nonsense.

There is absolutely no way, no how you're playing him this week.

For Arizona's skill position players: Play running back David Johnson regardless of matchup, wide receiver John Brown ($4,600 DK; $6,300 FD) is an OK but not great play if he suits up, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald ($7,100 DK; $7,100 FD) will get his, so don't worry there and lastly, and fellow wide receiver Michael Floyd ($3,900 DK; $5,900 FD) might actually be worth a play this week.

Look, Floyd has been a dumpster fire this season, I know.

But hear me out.

Against the Seahawks last year in Seattle, Floyd caught seven passes for over 100 yards and a score. Most notably, against cornerback Richard Sherman, Floyd caught four of those seven balls for 57 yards and had one of his touchdowns on the All-Pro.

Give Floyd a shot in tournaments. It could pay off if Palmer isn't a complete nightmare.
