Fantasy Football Week 6: Friday's Daily Fantasy Market Report
Here it is—the final Daily Market Report as we head into Week 6 of the fantasy football season.
Heading into Week 6, we'll get a few running backs returning from injury, but there are a few key players who will miss this week due to injury: Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. and Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed.
Never fear—we've got your back.
Although you never wish injury on a player, it could open up opportunities for cheaper-priced players that otherwise would not have had the role if not for a fellow player's injury.
Remember when I said there were a few running backs returning from injury? One of them is Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart. What should we do with him coming off injury?
Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart Practicing
1 of 8
According to Steve Reed of the Associated Press, Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart ($5,100 DraftKings; $6,300 FanDuel) is ready to go for Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints.
Any time a player is up against the Saints defense, the best way to describe it would be the double heart-eyed emoji.
Even I could score 10 fantasy points against that defense.
Given his injuries and how long he has been out for, Stewart's is underpriced and a viable play this week against the Saints. The only question with Stewart is if he'll catch any passes, but he should get a fair amount of work on the ground.
Panthers QB Cam Newton Practicing
2 of 8
After sitting out Week 5 with a concussion, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton ($8,100 DK; $8,900 FD) is back and practicing in full, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.
As mentioned in the Jonathan Stewart slide prior to this, Newton gets an overwhelmingly juicy matchup.
However, Newton is pretty much the highest-priced quarterback option out there, so he's going to cost a pretty penny.
Either way, the matchup is just too nice to pass up on. If you play multiple lineups, squeeze him in there.
Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr DNP Thursday
3 of 8
After suffering what appeared to be a potential high ankle sprain in Week 5, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. missed practice Thursday, according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun.
This all but confirms our belief: Smith is set to be out this week.
In his place, however, a quality, cheap play is fellow wide receiver Kamar Aiken ($3,000 DK; $5,200 FD).
Remember, it was only last year that Aiken saw over 120 targets, so he's a capable receiver. To this point in 2016, however, he has just 10 targets but will see a definite uptick in work with Smith out.
At his low price, he's the cheap-priced receiver we all need this week.
Bengals TE Tyler Eifert DNP Thursday
4 of 8
I'm starting to believe this guy is just not destined to play. You know, Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert.
According to Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Eifert was missing from practice once again on Thursday.
Nothing new here—it will be all fellow tight end C.J. Uzomah. Going up against the New England Patriots, I'm not much of a fan of Uzomah this week.
Let's move on.
Chiefs OC Brad Childress Offers Little About RB Jamaal Charles
5 of 8
In this episode of useless sound, we visit Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Brad Childress, who said, "we'll sprinkle him in where we feel he's most effective," according to Pete Sweeney of Chiefs.com.
Thanks for that, Mr. OC.
I'm starting to wonder why we even bother talking to these coaches!
Anyways, Charles had just two carries last week. After another week of action, he should see an increase, but the Chiefs have no reason to go away from fellow running back Spencer Ware.
Charles is not a player I'm even thinking about in DFS right now.
Redskins TE Jordan Reed in Concussion Protocol
6 of 8
This is not good. Not good at all.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed has entered the concussion protocol.
What makes this especially scary is that this is Reed's fifth concussion since college. Hopefully this doesn't keep him out too long.
With that said, there is a 99.9 percent chance Reed will not play this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Based on team snaps alone, expect fellow tight end Vernon Davis to get the start in this one, but don't expect him to be a huge factor. With Reed's absence, this should allow for more targets to wide receivers DeSean Jackson ($5,800 DK; $6,400 FD) and Pierre Garcon ($3,800 DK; $6,000 FD).
The potential of extra targets make Jackson and Garcon appealing. I can see a long Jackson touchdown coming.
Lions RB Theo Riddick DNP Thursday
7 of 8
This was some pretty surprising news.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick ($5,300 DK; $6,600 FD) was sidelined in Thursday's practice, casting a bit of doubt in regards to his Week 6 status.
Even though he missed Thursday, my gut feeling is Riddick will still play. With fellow running back Dwayne Washington's status still up in the air, Riddick should get a ton of work against the Los Angeles Rams. His receiving upside makes him a great play, especially on DraftKings where your players get points for catches.
And no, the signing of veteran running back Justin Forsett does not scare me one iota.
Dolphins RB Arian Foster Limited in Practice Thursday
8 of 8
According to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, Miami Dolphins running back Arian Foster ($4,700 DK; $6,500 FD) was limited in practice Thursday.
Regardless of the "limited" tag, Foster is a sure bet to suit up and will have a juicy matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers—a team that gives up over 115 yards per game on the ground.
The only thing that could hinder Foster's value is a quick Steelers lead. Even then, Foster's pass-catching ability should more than make up for it.
He's a top-20 running back this week, hands down.
