Todd McShay NFL Mock Draft 2016: Notable Picks from ESPN Guru's Final Mock
ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay released his sixth and final mock projections for the first round of the 2016 NFL draft, which will take place Thursday night in Chicago.
The first two selections are standard, as the top quarterbacks come off the board, with the Los Angeles Rams taking Jared Goff and the Philadelphia Eagles grabbing Carson Wentz. Things start to get more interesting at No. 3, where McShay has the San Diego Chargers taking offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley.
Let's check out how he forecast the entire opening round. That's followed by a deeper dive into some of the most notable storylines, including one riser, one faller and one marquee absence.

Josh Doctson Cracks Top 10
Ole Miss' Laquon Treadwell spent most of the draft process as the top prospect among a deep group at wide receiver. That status started to get challenged after lackluster testing at his pro day, however, which included a 40-yard dash that timed out at 4.63 seconds, per NFL.com.
Although straight-line speed isn't the physical wideout's strong suit, the lack of explosiveness has raised questions about his separation ability at the next level. In turn, McShay now has Doctson coming off the board first at the position while rising into the top 10.
The ESPN guru also noted there could be a trade between the Cleveland Browns, who are projected to take the TCU standout at No. 8, and the Miami Dolphins at No. 13. That proposed swap depends on the availability of running back Ezekiel Elliott.
If the Browns stand pat and select Doctson, they are getting a receiver who flashed immense upside before his final college season came to an early end due to a wrist injury. PFF Draft highlighted some of his most impressive numbers:
So long as receiver-needy teams don't have any lingering concerns about his wrist, it would no longer be a surprise to see him drafted before Treadwell. McShay has the Ole Miss product falling to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 24, which represents rock-solid value for Cincy.
Myles Jack Slides to No. 16
Jack is a top-five prospect based purely on talent. Unfortunately, injury concerns have left his stock up in the air heading into the first round. It's one of those situations where it only takes one team falling in love with his upside to take him early, but he could also be in for a long night.
McShay projects the question marks will cause the UCLA star to fall into the middle of Round 1. While the Detroit Lions would have to accept the inherit health risk, it would be difficult to pass up the do-it-all linebacker's value after finishing 23rd in total defense last season.
The former running back is honest about the long-term outlook of his worrisome right knee. He told Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times that doctors said he doesn't currently need microfracture surgery, but the future is less certain.
"Down the line, possibly. Potentially. Nobody knows," Jack said. "But as of right now, I'm not a candidate for anything. Nobody knows how long anybody's going to play in this league. To play three years in this league, that's above average, so…"
Although three years may qualify as a nice career for a depth player, teams are looking for a longer period of impact from a high draft pick. And it's that uncertainty that makes Jack the most prominent example of a boom-or-bust prospect this year.
At some point, a front office will decide his playmaking skills make him worth the risk. It could even happen inside the top 10. The question marks mean nothing is guaranteed, though.
No Paxton Lynch in Round 1
Predicting where Lynch will fall is probably the trickiest factor in Round 1. He was considered a fringe first-round selection for most of the past couple of months, but the trades at the top of the draft have seemingly made the No. 3 quarterback on the board a hotter commodity.
McShay commented on social media about his decision to leave Lynch out of the opening round:
"Final mock draft for 2016 is done. Only two QBs. Probably wrong but slept better."
Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported earlier in the week on some buzz linking Lynch to a possible top-10 landing spot:
The question is whether all the talk represents legitimate interest in the Memphis quarterback, or if front offices are sending out false signals, hoping to attract trade partners. The high volume of misinformation this time of year makes it difficult to determine the answer.
So it's possible McShay is right, and Lynch goes the entire first day without his name called. Yet Rapoport's report could also prove prophetic with a team moving up to take the QB early. If the latter occurs, it will have a trickle-down effect on the other players from the position, helping their stocks.
One team to watch is the Denver Broncos. If Lynch is still on the board at No. 31, they could bring him in to compete with Mark Sanchez for the starting job after the retirement of Peyton Manning and the departure of Brock Osweiler in free agency.
