Eagles vs. Packers: Score and Twitter Reaction from 2015 Preseason

Alec NathanAug 29, 2015

Sam Bradford looked solid in his first outing with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he turned things up a notch for the team's preseason tilt against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night.

In the Eagles' 39-26 win, Bradford completed all 10 of his passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns before Mark Sanchez relieved him in the second quarter. Bradford's touchdown passes went to running back Darren Sproles and tight ends Trey Burton and Brent Celek.

NFL scribe Geoff Mosher noted that Bradford impressed with his pinpoint placement:

The Eagles entered Saturday night averaging an NFL-best 38 points through two preseason games, and they picked up right where they left off against the Baltimore Ravens.

DeMarco Murray touched the ball four straight times on the Eagles' opening possession and racked up 25 yards before Sproles caught a perfectly placed ball from Bradford on a wheel route for an eight-yard touchdown. Murray totaled six carries for 28 yards and two catches for 12 yards during his abbreviated stints at Lambeau Field.

For fantasy players out there, Murray's performance pointed to some serious potential in a high-powered, up-tempo Eagles offense buoyed by an offensive line that ranked tops in run blocking last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

"These guys, they love to run the ball and be physical," Murray said of his offensive line, according to CSNPhilly.com's Corey Seidman. "Great at double teams, but I think the best thing is we've got a lot of guys that are athletic."

ESPN's Matthew Berry reiterated that prospective fantasy owners should be targeting skill position players donning midnight green:

For the second week in a row, Eagles free safety Walter Thurmond recorded an interception—but this time he was able to take Brett Hundley's errant pass 28 yards the other way for a first-quarter score.

The Eagles' Instagram account provided a snapshot of Thurmond doing his best Deion Sanders impression as he crossed the goal line:

Starting for Aaron Rodgers—who got the night off to rest—Hundley experienced plenty of ups and a few downs while operating at the controls of a short-handed offense.

Not only was wide receiver Jordy Nelson already missing with a torn ACL, but the Packers confirmed that Randall Cobb suffered a shoulder injury during the first quarter.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport provided an update on Cobb's status:

All told, Hundley completed 22-of-31 passes for 315 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while rushing three times for 15 yards.

Hundley's third-quarter hookup with Myles White was a thing of beauty, as the NFL relayed on Twitter:

But the big story for Green Bay revolved around the team's misfortune in the medical department. After Cobb went down with a shoulder injury, two other key contributors were forced to leave the game, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky:

According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, cornerback Micah Hyde was carted off after suffering a neck injury in the second quarter.

If there was any good news for Green Bay it was that rookie receiver Ty Montgomery came to play. Making the most of his chances, Montgomery compiled two catches for 71 yards, including a 52-yard catch-and-run.

The Eagles proceeded to wrap up the first half with a 39-14 lead, and fourth-string running back Kenjon Barner continued to make a positive impression after returning punts for touchdowns in back-to-back weeks.

The NFL passed along video of Barner's impressive second-quarter scamper:

Sanchez held his own under center after coming in for Bradford and did well to lead two touchdown drives. After hitting receiver Jeff Maehl with a nine-yard touchdown pass, Sanchez found Burton for a seven-yard strike.

Sanchez closed out his impressive night by completing 13-of-19 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 3-0 in the preseason with one final exhibition clash against the New York Jets tapped for Sept. 3. Considering Bradford, Murray and the rest of the offense appeared ready to roll for Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, next week's exhibition finale should serve as a showcase for players like Barner and quarterback Tim Tebow who are fighting to make the 53-man squad.

When it comes to the Packers (1-2), they simply can't afford more injuries. With Nelson done for the season, Cobb banged up and a host of other key contributors struggling, the main goal against the New Orleans Saints will be to keep starters out of harm's way.
