2012 NFL Mock Draft: Updated Post-Combine Edition

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

Draft stocks are rising and falling after the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine.

However, just because a player was outstanding or thoroughly disappointing in the workouts doesn't mean his stock has changed considerably inside NFL team's war rooms.

Here's my post-combine mock draft.

I've made a few changes. Take a look.

2012 NFL Mock Draft (February 29, Post-Combine Update)

1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

2. Washington Redskins (trade with St. Louis Rams): Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

3. Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, Southern California

4. Cleveland Browns: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

6. St. Louis Rams (trade with Washington Redskins): Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis (previous pick: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa)

I know I said you can't get too hyped about combine results, but Poe is a special athlete and a guy that fills a need for a rebuilding franchise.

The Rams allowed 152.1 rushing yards in 2011, and I don't think Jeff Fisher will want the second-best receiver with the No. 6 overall pick.

The wideout class is deep this year.

Fisher gets his "Albert Haynesworth" man in the middle, too.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame (previous pick: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina)

The Jaguars are in dire need of a true No. 1 receiver. Simply put, Michael Floyd is that guy. At 6'3'' and 220 pounds, he can overpower smaller corners and has the speed to get down the field. His superb leaping ability and soft hands allow him to snatch the ball at its highest point.

There's a chance that Jeffery runs a solid 40-yard dash time at his pro day, but Floyd is much more well-rounded as a wideout.

8. Miami Dolphins: Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama

9. Carolina Panthers: Michael Brockers, DL, LSU

10. Buffalo Bills: Nick Perry, DE, Southern California (previous pick: Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina)

I'll admit, I can't settle between Nick Perry and Melvin Ingram for the Bills at No. 10. Because they've made the switch to a base 4-3 defense, schematically, Perry might be a better fit at 6'3'' and 271 pounds.

He looks the part of a downhill 4-3 defensive end, and that's precisely what Buffalo needs.

11. Seattle Seahawks: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina

12. Kansas City Chiefs: Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

13. Arizona Cardinals: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

14. Dallas Cowboys: David DeCastro, OG, Stanford

15. Philadelphia Eagles: Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama (previous pick: Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona State)

The Eagles are in desperate need of a thumping inside linebacker, something they haven't had in years. Some would consider Hightower a reach here, but after watching his game film and seeing him exhibit fine athleticism at the combine, No. 15 overall seems right to me.

Almost forgot, he's nearly 6'3'' and weighs 265 pounds. Eagles fans, rejoice.

16. New York Jets: Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina (previous pick: Nick Perry, DE, Southern California

The Jets need more pass rushing help, and that's exactly what they'll get with Ingram. Rex Ryan will absolutely love his versatility and will use him in a variety of different packages. Ingram can get to the quarterback with a myriad of moves, can cover with ease and isn't a liability against the run.

17. Cincinnati Bengals: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

18. San Diego Chargers: Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia

19. Chicago Bears: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina (previous pick: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame)

With Floyd gone, the Bears get the next best thing in Alshon Jeffery. He's arguably the best deep threat in the draft and is a master at coming down with the deep jump ball.

He came into the combine at a thin 216 pounds, and even if he gains some weight, he'll be in good football shape. Jeffery is what this Chicago offense must have to compete with the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions in the NFC North.

20. Tennessee Titans: Zach Brown, LB, North Carolina

21. Cincinnati Bengals: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama (previous pick: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor)

The Bengals would like to add more pieces to their secondary, especially with Leon Hall returning from a season-ending injury and Nate Clements being 32 years old.

Jenkins comes with some off-field concerns, but we've seen the Bengals take gambles on these type of players in the past.

He's a gifted prospect with lock-down abilities and can start in the slot before moving to the outside.

22. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta): Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi State (previous pick: Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama)

The Browns drafted defensive linemen Phil Taylor and Jabaal Sheard in the first two rounds of the 2011 draft and received decent contributions from both players last year. Taylor was a load in the middle, and Sheard totaled 8.5 sacks.

However, they still allowed 147.4 yards per game on the ground.

Cox will be the final piece to their young corps of defensive linemen.

Due to his immense athleticism, he could be plugged in anywhere and would be a key cog to the team's defense in 2012.

23. Detroit Lions: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa (previous pick: Mike Adams, OT, OSU)

As a left tackle prospect, Reiff has shorter arms that you'd like at 33' 1/2'', but he enters the NFL with loads of experience playing on the edge and brings that Big Ten offensive lineman pedigree.

The Steelers are keenly aware of the importance of protecting Ben Roethlisberger, and Reiff is the guy who can help with that endeavor.

I wouldn't be shocked if Marcus Gilbert moves over to the left tackle and Reiff mans the right tackle spot next year.

Max Starks was a good stop-gap option, but he didn't represent the future by any means.

25. Denver Broncos: Devon Still, DT, Penn State (previous pick: Doug Martin, RB, Boise State)

There's a chance another running back besides Trent Richardson will go in the first round; I just wouldn't advocate it. The risk is too high, and you can get quality runners later in the draft. For the Broncos, a stout defensive tackle is far more important at this stage.

Slot the disruptive Still on the same line as Elvis Dumveril and Von Miller, and you've got quite the menacing defensive front.

26. Houston Texans: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor (previous pick: Devon Still, DT, Penn State)

The Texans don't have many holes on their team, but they do need a complementary piece to Andre Johnson in their receiving contingent.

Wright's the ideal prospect. He can become a bubble-screen threat and occasionally get down the field to take some safety help away from Johnson.

A match made in heaven.

27. New England Patriots (from New Orleans): Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska (previous pick: Mark Barron, S, Alabama)

I don't know why it took so long for me to realize that Barron will likely be a run-stuffing safety and a liability against the pass in the NFL.

That's not what the Patriots need. They already have an intimidating hitter in Patrick Chung. It's nearly impossible to predict Bill Belichick's drafts, and he'll probably trade out of his spot, but Dennard, the physical press corner, is ideal for what's needed in New England.

28. Green Bay Packers: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

29. Baltimore Ravens: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

30. San Francisco 49ers: Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech (previous pick: Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers)

Like Dontari Poe, Hill is another prospect that will be picked higher than many expected after a staggering effort at the combine.

I'm not sure this is the best fit for the run-heavy 49ers, who featured many short and intermediate passes this season, but they need a vertical threat. Badly. Hill is a bit raw, but you know Jim Harbaugh wants more legitimate weapons to help the development of quarterback Alex Smith.

31. New England Patriots: Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois

32. New York Giants, Kelechi Osemele, OL, Iowa State
