Fantasy Week 4 Waiver Wire: Pickups and Drops After 3 Weeks of Action

1 of 20

Injuries are unavoidable. They happen every year to some of the best players in the league, and even though they can suck the life right out of your team, you deal with them and move on because hey, this is fantasy football, not fantasy badminton.

So now that you've come to terms with the reality that your best wide receiver is out for the season, what do you do? Hopefully, you have a little depth that you can plug right in there, but what if you don't?

This is where the all-important Waiver Wire comes in handy and why you need to know exactly who to pick up...and who to drop.

Pickup: QB Tim Tebow (Denver Broncos)

2 of 20

If he's still out there and you are either hurting at QB or have a team with two-three losses already and want to make a pickup that could give your team a kick-start down the line, I'd pick him up immediately.

Tebow showed last year with both his arm and his legs that he can be a very solid fantasy QB if given the chance. With the Broncos sitting at 1-2 right now and Orton looking a lot like a soiled tampon trying to run the John Fox show, that chance could be creeping up sooner rather than later.

    A change is coming soon...

Pickup: QBs Vince Young or Mike Kafka (Philadelphia Eagles)

2 of 20

Grabbing one of these two guys is pretty much a must if you own Mike Vick.

It looks like Vince Young will be coming back this week and should be the guy Philly turns to if Vick can't play. Whoever it is, it's obvious Vick is going to be banged up all season.

We might be Northwestern fans here at Pyro®, but we have to admit Kafka looked terrible last Sunday when he came on in relief. With that being the case, Vinsanity should be the one you should pick up as Vick's backup. Kafka pretty much lost the job last weekend.

Vick should be back this weekend seeing that his hand was merely bruised instead of broken, so don't expect much from Young the time being.

Pickup: RB Bernard Scott (Cincinnati Bengals)

3 of 20

If Cedric Benson's suspension is not reduced by the Führer on Wednesday, Bernard Scott will get three games to score fantasy owners some points before Benson returns.

The Bengals look like they can put some points on the board, so if you are in a pinch at RB, Scott could turn in some decent performances against the likes of Buffalo, Jacksonville and Indianapolis.

Pickup: RB Kendall Hunter (San Francisco)

4 of 20

It looks like Gore will be able to give it a go this week despite spraining his ankle last week against the Bengals, but Kendall Hunter is a great pickup regardless.

The kid is a ton of fun to watch and looks like he'll have a bright future, but don't get too excited just yet. Gore has a fat contract and is still a real good player despite not being able to get anything rolling thus far.

That said, the 49ers look like they are going to suck more nuts than their fans in the Castro, so maybe Hunter gets an extended look later on when Gore gets injured again.

Pickup: RB Stevan Ridley (New England Patriots)

5 of 20

BenJarvus Green-Ellis looked like crap last week against the Bills while the even bigger and tougher Ridley played super strong. It wouldn't shock me if the more talented Ridley eventually took on the goal-line/short-yardage role with the Pats, a team that has actually been in the top six in rushing TDs each of the last five seasons.

Pickup: RB Montario Hardesty (Cleveland Browns)

6 of 20

It might be a bit early to grab him, but Montario looked real good last weekend and was supposed to be the guy last year before he got injured... but that was before Peyton Hillis replaced LeBron as Cleveland's favorite athlete.

Remember, the man on the Madden 12 cover isn't injured, he's just sick. His strep throat will be gone this week with some antibiotics and in fact, he's already cleared to be with the team, so this isn't a situation where Hardesty will help your team right away.

If you can stash him on your bench for when the Browns run Hillis into the ground and he becomes a pile of puddy, do it.

Pickup: RB Alfonso Smith (Arizona Cardinals)

7 of 20

Wells should be back starting this week, but Alfonso looked a ton better than Crapster Taylor and could be the No. 2 guy from here on out...

and we all know Beanie's injury history...

Pickup: WR Nate Washington (Tennessee Titans)

8 of 20

Washington had seven targets the first week, 11 in Week 2 and then nine more this past weekend. He also already has 21 catches, a pace which would put him at 112 by the end of the season.

With Kenny Britt gone, Nate is the WR1 for the Titans, which could also end up to be his demise. He'll likely be double-covered moving forward without much WR depth behind him, but he also could turn out to be this year's Brandon Lloyd!

He's already built a great rapport with Hasselbeck, so you'd do well to take a chance and see what happens.

Pickup: WR Andre Caldwell (Cincinnati Bengals)

9 of 20

We had Jerome Simpson on our pickup list last week, but as we all know by now, he got busted with over six pounds of marijuana at his house a couple of days later.

Simpson could very well be in jail real soon catching balls of a different sort, so Caldwell would no doubt slip right into the starting slot next to A.J. Green if he does. Besides, Andre is already being groomed for the spot as he grabbed six catches last Sunday against the 49ers compared to Simpson's one.

Remember, Jordan Shipley is already out for the year as well, so Andre will undoubtedly rack up some nice playing time if Jerome is gone.

Pickup: WR Donald Jones (Buffalo Bills)

11 of 20

While watching that amazing Bills vs. Patriots game last Sunday, I kept asking "who is this No. 19 guy on the Bills flying past everyone?" He basically looked like a Jacoby Ford meets Percy Harvin clone out there!

At the end of the day, Jones had five catches on 10 targets, over 100 yards and would have gone for much more if not for a couple of bad tosses by Fitzgerald. What I'm trying to say here is, the guy gets open... a lot.

With Roscoe Parrish and Marcus Easley down for the year, Donald could blossom within this solid, fantasy-minded Bills team. It sure seems like there are enough balls to go around.

Pickup: WR Victor Cruz (New York Giants)

12 of 20

Mario Manningham has been cleared to play in Week 4, but Cruz looked like a beast out there last Sunday and it will be hard to take him out of the game.

Victor was the darling of the preseason in 2010 and is now a hero to Giants fans after taking down the Eagles almost single-handedly.

Some think he might have even taken Manningham's job with his performance, but either way, he's at least the No. 3 guy on NY now.

Pickup: WR Titus Young (Detroit Lions)

13 of 20

Titus Young could be one of the most electric young playmakers in the game and with one of the best young quarterbacks throwing to him in Matthew Stafford, the sky is the limit for this kid.

Even Nate Burleson, the guy whose job he may end up taking, referred to Titus as another DeSean Jackson in the making.

As the season goes on, he'll get better and better, so grab him now while you can.

Pickup: WR Torrey Smith (Baltimore Ravens)

14 of 20

Torrey Smith was drafted to lengthen the field for Joe Flacco, Ray Rice and Anquan Boldin. Ummm, mission accomplished!

Smith actually dropped a pass in last Sunday's game that would have given him four TDs on the day!

This kid is super-duper fast, but you really shouldn't expect him to be scoring multiple touchdowns on a regular basis by any means. His "ahhh" moment is likely in the rear-view mirror, but with Flacco's arm and Ray Rice keeping defenses honest, you never know.

He could be worth a shot.

Pickup: WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Chicago Bears)

15 of 20

If the Bears are never going to run the ball, which looks possible, then Dane Sanzenbacher needs some consideration.

Roy Williams is terrible, Johnny Knox is inconsistent, Devin Hester should be given back to special teams where he belongs and it seems like Cutler already trusts this undrafted slot receiver more than any of them anyway!

He's the white guy possession receiver on a team that never runs the ball... or a poor man's Wes Welker if you will.

Pickup: TE Randy McMichael (San Diego Chargers)

16 of 20

It simply has to be done being Antonio Gates' replacement. There's not much more to say about the guy than that.

He's been in the league forever and I can count the fantasy points he's scored in his life on my hands and feet, but in an offense like the Chargers have that gears toward the tight end, you need to make the move especially if you own Gates.

    Period.

Drop: WR Chad Ochocinco (New England Patriots)

17 of 20

Ochoschizo dropped a TD catch this last weekend that would have won the game for the Patriots. At this point, Ocho is lost in his own psyche, his confidence is at an all time low and he's most likely lost Bill Belichick and Tom Brady's trust (despite what Brady said).

Chad's skills have fallen and they can't get up, at least not on a winning team.

Drop: WR Roy Williams (Chicago Bears)

18 of 20

I guess that ex-girlfriend of his that turned down his engagement telegram offer knew he was washed up before the Bears front office did.

This putz is a waste of bench space and could very well be out of the league next season. Just watch—he'll end up doing his idiotic first down dance on the Toronto Argonauts for the next five-seven years.

Drop: WR Hines Ward (Pittsburgh Steelers)

19 of 20

I still love the way Ward plays, but the Steelers have too much young talent on the team to warrant the old man being on your bench collecting digital dust while he collects social security.

You're never going to start him with a straight face, so go pick someone else up with at least a semblance of some upside. I'd probably rather have Randy Moss or Terrell Owens on my bench at the faint chance they may come back and play for the right team... I'm not even kidding.

Drop: All Indianapolis Colts Players

20 of 20

I would advise a fire sale on all Indianapolis Colts skill-position players that currently reside on your fantasy football team.

We all miss watching Peyton Manning play on Sundays, but Addai, Wayne, Garcon, Collie and Clark miss him more.

Save yourself the headache and get something in return while these guys still have a bit of value.
