NFL Power Rankings Week 3: Which Teams May as Well Forfeit the Season?

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

We're just two weeks into the 2011 NFL season, and it's already obvious that a few teams fall well short of the threshold for competitiveness.

After what I've seen thus far, there are two squads that should just pack it in and do whatever they can to win the Andrew Luck lottery.

The Seattle Seahawks are just plain awful. They have lost their first two games by a combined score of 57-17, including a 24-0 smackdown at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2. Seattle currently ranks last in the NFL in rushing yards per game (47.5) and is 28th in passing yards (144).

While they are in a terrible division, which they won with a 7-9 record last season, the Seahawks just don't have it this year.

Their Tarvaris Jackson-led offense is dead-last overall in the NFL, averaging 191.5 total yards per game, and it doesn't look like it will get any better.

Seattle's big offseason addition was receiver Sidney Rice, and he is yet to see the field, as he's out with a shoulder injury.

With the Arizona Cardinals looking like a strong team, 7-9 won't get it done in the NFC West this season. The Seahawks have an obvious need at quarterback, and Andrew Luck would fit in perfectly in Seattle. He'd have a legitimate No. 1 target in Rice—plus the NFL's 2010 Comeback Player of the Year in Mike Williams—to throw to. In addition to that, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll knows Luck well from his time at USC.

The Kansas City Chiefs have suffered two big blows already with the loss of safety Eric Berry and running back Jamaal Charles, both to ACL tears. Both players will miss the season, but given how the Chiefs have performed thus far, that might not be a bad thing.

Kansas City has lost their opening two games by a combined score of 89-10. They travel to Qualcomm Stadium this Sunday to face a San Diego Chargers team looking to dish out a beat-down.

Quarterback Matt Cassel has looked terrible this season, completing 37 of 58 passes for just 252 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. His 50.4 quarterback rating ranks next to last in the NFL and, while several of the interceptions have been the fault of his receivers, Chiefs fans aren't going to be patient with the seventh-year pro.

Luck would also be a great fit in Kansas City. When healthy, the Chiefs have a ridiculous amount of young talent, including offensive weapons Dwayne Bowe and Jonathan Baldwin (if he isn't beat up by his teammates), the aforementioned Charles and Dexter McCluster at running back.

If the Chiefs can just bear through an ugly season, bringing in Luck next year could set them up for a beautiful future.
