NFL Power Rankings: 4 Teams Who Will Stumble in the Rankings

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

The NFL regular season is just an eighth of the way through. The power rankings are going to look dramatically different after the season ends than they do now.

For instance, the following four teams will not be as nearly as high.

No. 3 Detroit Lions

NFL QB Battle Predictions 🔮

No. 3 seems a bit premature for the Lions. They are a talented young team. There is no denying this. But they still need work on the offensive line and pass defense.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them make the playoffs. But they are not the No. 3 team in the NFL.

No. 7 Houston Texans

I've grown tired of the Gary Kubiak Houston Texan rerun.

Houston starts off strong, and their offense looks dominant. Then their defense crumbles, and they get hit with injuries—all of a sudden they are a mediocre team.

There is nothing here that tells me this team will be able to stop other teams' passing offenses for 16 weeks.

No. 13 Washington Redskins

The Redskins are 2-0. I guess you can't put them much lower than 13. But they beat a Giants team whose secondary was so injury-riddled they were plucking guys off the street to play.

They then followed that up with a one-point win over a Cardinals team that is, well, like every other Cardinals team that isn't quarterbacked by Kurt Warner.

The Redskins are not a playoff team.

No. 30 Kansas City Chiefs

The good news for the Chiefs is that they can only fall two spots—and they probably will.

I have no idea how they aren't 32nd already. They have lost their first two games by a combined score of 89-10!

No team in the NFL can touch that level of ineptness.

Oh, and they also lost two of their three best players in the first two weeks in Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry. Maybe Tamba Hali should just sit out game three.
