Nnamdi Asomugha Signs with Eagles: 5 Teams Who Could Trade for Asante Samuel

Kyle VassaloJun 2, 2018

The Eagles' move to bring in Nnamdi Asomugha is going to have huge implications on many teams from around the league. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Asante Samuel and Asomugha are all under contract for Philadelphia.

With Kevin Kolb going to Arizona, the Eagles have already been involved in the biggest trade this offseason. It's very possible that they are going to be involved in another big trade.

Samuel could very well be the odd corner out, so to speak. With so many teams still in need of a corner, let's take a look at five teams who could trade for him.

San Francisco 49ers

1 of 5

The 49ers are in desperate need of a corner. There are still a number of corners on the free agency market, but Samuel could be just the sort of play maker that they are lacking.

The 49ers cut Nate Clements. They have the cap to pay Samuel. Jim Harbaugh has made his intent to build through the draft clear, but will he finally make the move fans are looking for?

Dallas Cowboys

2 of 5

The Cowboys know all too well what Samuel is capable of.

The Eagles may not want to deal him to a division foe, but the Cowboys certainly could at least tap into what the Eagles are looking for in exchange for Samuel.

Oakland Raiders

3 of 5

The Oakland Raiders let Asomugha slip away. It's sort of ironic that they could be one of the major candidates to trade for the guy that was run out of town by the Nnamdi acquisition.

Al Davis could fall in love in with what Samuel brings to a defense. We all know what happens when Davis wants something. He will undoubtedly throw all the resources necessary to bring him in, should he set his sights on Samuel to fill the void.

New York Jets

The Jets missed out on Asomugha as well, but they may elect to bring back Antonio Cromartie. Should they elect to bring the tandem back for another year, they won't be needing Samuel.

Even so, Samuel would see a ton of action if he played opposite Revis. Unlike Asomugha, teams who throw the ball at Samuel are putting themselves at risk of getting picked off.

While Asomugha is a better corner, Samuel's style of play would adhere to helping the turnover ratio for the Jets.

It would also allow them to have the best cornerback tandem in the league, which has to be appealing.

Houston Texans

5 of 5

The Texans had the worst pass defense in the entire league last season. They took a huge step in bringing in Jonathan Joseph. They may have dropped out of the hunt for Asomugha, but they have a chance to form one of the most dangerous cornerback tandems in football with Joseph and Samuel.

It would make for a night and day difference from last year. Wade Phillips knows exactly what Samuel brings to the table. The Texans have one of the most promising front sevens in all of football.

A cornerback tandem like Samuel and Joseph could make them a top-five defense in no time.
