NFL Free Agency: San Francisco 49ers Drop Out of Nnamdi Asomugha Running
The San Francisco 49ers have dropped out of the Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes, as first reported by Michael Lombardi Friday morning.
A surprise team has emerged in the running, only making everything more interesting.
The 49ers are in the throes of major changes, having recently drafted their quarterback of the future in Colin Kaepernick and shaking up the head coaching position by hiring Jim Harbaugh.

San Francisco has many in-house problems of their own with Frank Gore set to hold out, and Michael Crabtree on the PUP list to start the year.
The 49ers finished 6-10 last year and recently released Nate Clements, so signing Asomugha would have been a huge boost to a lackluster secondary.
Prognosticators assumed that the 49ers had a shot at Asomugha because of the corner's ties to the Bay Area.
San Francisco successfully signed first-round draft pick Aldon Smith last night but couldn't do the same with ex-Raider Asomugha.
Asomugha is considered one of the best, if not the best cornerback in the NFL today, and he has been actively pursued by a host of teams.
The New York Jets are said to be front-runners for Asomugha's services.
