NFL Free Agency Signings: Chad Ochocinco to Patriots and Biggest Shockers

Tony SantorsaJul 28, 2011

It has been a very hectic and eventful three days after the conclusion of the NFL lockout, as multiple teams have agreed to terms on contracts with players. It has pretty much been four months of transactions all compiled into just a few weeks.

Out of the plethora of players agreeing to contracts, there have been quite the handful of shockers.

Here are the biggest shockers of NFL free agency thus far.

Reggie Bush to the Miami Dolphins

1 of 7

To be honest with you, I did not expect Reggie Bush to be traded as it was almost guaranteed that the New Orleans Saints were going to have to simply cut him because they were not going to pay him $11.8 million.

However, I suppose the Miami Dolphins really wanted Bush and made the trade early Thursday morning.

The report of Bush's new contract with Miami is two-years worth, at $9.75 million.

Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots

2 of 7

It was expected that the Washington Redskins were going to shop Albert Haynesworth, but I'm positive that no one imagined that the New England Patriots were going to be the suitors.

Ever since Haynesworth signed his $100 million contract with the 'Skins back in 2009, he has been extremely self-centered and overall did not mix well with head coach Mike Shanahan.

Now Haynesworth is a member of the Patriots and has agreed to a brand new contract, but details about the deal have yet to be released.

Vince Young to the Philadelphia Eagles

3 of 7

Many assumed that Vince Young was going to end up as one team's starting quarterback in 2011—that is obviously not going to happen.

Young has reportedly agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles after being released by the Tennessee Titans earlier this week.

Rather than being a starter, Young will back up quarterback Michael Vick in 2011.

Chad Ochocinco to the New England Patriots

4 of 7

Corey Dillon and Randy Moss were two of the biggest "misfits" who worked out in New England, and now the latest to give it a go is wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.

Over the past year or so, it became clear that Bill Belichick and Ochocinco shared an admiration towards each other—but who would have thought that Belichick would actually pull the trigger on a trade to acquire Ochocinco?

Ochocinco is now a member of the New England Patriots, but immediately faces a new challenge: Aaron Hernandez already sports New England's No. 85.

Donovan McNabb to the Minnesota Vikings

5 of 7

It was certainly expected that Donovan McNabb was going to be on the move after such a mediocre 2010 campaign with the Washington Redskins.

McNabb was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings in a deal that happened Wednesday.

The 34-year-old quarterback will now compete with rookie quarterback Christian Ponder to be the team's starting quarterback in 2011.

Let the quarterback battle begin!

Sidney Rice to the Seattle Seahawks

6 of 7

Is it just me, or has anyone else heard that any wide receiver who goes to Seattle is likely going to die?

What is Sidney Rice thinking?

Rice had the opportunity to sign with any team in the league, as he was one of the top wide receivers available, but he chooses to head to the Pacific Northwest, a place where wide receivers go to die.

The Seahawks have major quarterback issues entering 2011, despite signing Tarvaris Jackson to a two-year deal worth $8 million.

I am going to go out on a limb, but I'm predicting that Rice's numbers are going to take a major dip as a member of the Seahawks.

Johnathan Joseph to the Houston Texans

7 of 7

Cornerback Johnathan Joseph was one of the biggest-name free agents who fell under the radar simply because of bigger names such as Nnamdi Asomugha and Antonio Cromartie.

We all assumed that the Houston Texans were going to be major players in the Asomugha-Sweepstakes, but instead decided to sign Joseph to a five-year deal worth $48.75 million, according to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter
