The Best Middle Linebackers Not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame

The middle linebacker is the quarterback of the defense. He makes the calls and adjusts his teammates before the ball is snapped.

Not only is he responsible for his assignments, but he must know where his teammates are at all times and what their responsibilities are.

Though the quarterback gets most of the ink and kudos, the middle linebacker gets a lot of love himself from the media and fans.

And yet, many of the finest football players in the history of professional football still seeking their ultimate respect. They have gone years—and in some cases decades—waiting for the day they get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

What is no sheer coincidence is that all of the middle linebackers on this list except two failed to be on a championship team in their careers. Voters seem drawn to players with rings, while ignoring the superior player.

Time and space leave the pockets of true greatness twisting in oblivion, causing legends to go to their graves unable to experience true respect while watching others with half their abilities get inducted instead.

While not everyone will agree on this list, these are who I feel are the very best middle linebackers still awaiting their call to Canton.
