NFL Picks Week 16: Predicting Which Teams Will Cover, Which Won't for Each Game

Ethan NorofDec 23, 2010

It's Week 16 in the NFL, and teams in contention are fighting for their right to a postseason birth.

Others not in the playoff hunt are looking to play spoiler, and with teams like the Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills with nothing to lose, you can bet that every page of the play book is going to be fair game this week; let's delve right into the picks.

Carolina Panthers @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-14)

Despite the Panthers gaining some sort of traction with a win against the Cardinals last week, the Steelers will be looking to come out with a statement after a home loss to the Jets. Pick: Steelers

Dallas Cowboys (6.5) @ Arizona Cardinals

The Cowboys have been putting up points and lots of them since Jason Garrett took over the coaching reigns, and that should once again be the case in a blowout win over the lowly Cards. Pick: Cowboys

New England Patriots (-8) @ Buffalo Bills

The Bills play their best football at home, and almost beat the Patriots earlier this season. New England should win this game, but it might not be by a large margin like most think. Pick: Bills

New York Jets @ Chicago Bears (-1)

The Jets need to keep on winning, but with Mark Sanchez's shoulder in disarray, Santonio Holmes' turf toe and the Bears looking like a very serious contender, it may not be in the cards. Pick: Bears

Baltimore Ravens (-3) @ Cleveland Browns

Divisional matchups are always tough, but if the Ravens want to knock off the Steelers, they're going to need to win out. Though the Browns present a tough competitor, the Ravens should pull this one out by at least a touchdown. Pick: Ravens

Washington Redskins @ Jacksonville Jaguars (-7)

Rex Grossman might be a favorite target of many to harp on, but he's actually been impressive in limited action thus far. This one could be a shocker. Pick: Redskins

Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5)

The Titans showcased an explosive offense last week, but it'll be much tougher against a KC team whose defense is much stronger than Houston's. And with the Chiefs looking for win no. 10, odds are they'll be extremely motivated. Pick: Chiefs

Detroit Lions @ Miami Dolphins (-3)

The Lions are surging right now, and QB Chad Henne is clearly not the long-term answer for Miami. Pick: Lions

Minnesota Vikings @ Philadelphia Eagles (-14.5)

After the miraculous win against the Giants last week, it's tough to go against the Eagles. And given the fact that they're playing a heavily slumping Vikings team? Despite the big line, let the good times keep rolling. Pick: Eagles

San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams (-2)

Whoever wins this matchup could possibly win the division, which is a rather scary thought. Regardless, the Rams should take this one at home. Pick: Rams

Seattle Seahawks @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6)

Matt Hasselbeck is officially the leading nominee for worst starting quarterback in the NFL. Pick: Bucs

Houston Texans (-3) @ Denver Broncos

Despite the Texans' inability to secure a win of late, the Tim Tebow led Broncos are very much a work in progress. Pick: Texans

Indianapolis Colts (-3) @ Oakland Raiders

The Colts are gaining momentum, with a healthy Joseph Addai, this one could be over early. Pick: Colts

San Diego Chargers (-7) @ Cincinnati Bengals

No TO, and Ochocinco is going to play only half the snaps. QB Carson Palmer had a tough enough time already, so just imagine what it will be like on Sunday. Pick: Chargers

New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers (-3)

The Giants are going to make a big statement after a monumental loss. Pick: Giants

New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons (-2)

The most entertaining game of the week, the Falcons are going to prove that they're for real. Pick: Falcons
