Miami Dolphins Vs. Minnesota Vikings: Dolfan Reactions From The Booth
For the first time since 1977 the Miami Dolphins open up the season going 2-0 on the road.
In what seemed like dominating fashion the Dolphins squeezed out a 14-10 victory against the Minnesota Vikings.
As amazing as the defense looked in this game, the offense looked just as bad.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
To start you off lets throw some stats out there :
-- Miami won despite having the ball for only 23:39 with 12 first downs, Minnesota had 22 first downs.
-- The Dolphins have only scored 29 points (9 of which is due to the special teams and defense) which is the lowest point total for any team that is 2-0 but their 20 points allowed on defense is best only to the New Orleans Saints who have yet to play in week 2.
-- The Dolphins have committed only five penalties in 2 games only one on the defensive side of the ball.
-- Through week 2 the Dolphins have the 28th ranked passing offense averaging a meager 135 yards per game.
Now to be negative after such a positive game is probably not a good idea, but the Miami Dolphins offense did everything possibly imaginable to give away the game yesterday except have Brett Favre on their team.
Not only did Miami running backs fumble twice but the offense managed 75 total yards in the second half of the game while only running 11 minutes and 50 seconds off the clock in the second half.
It almost seems that the Miami Dolphins philosophy with Chad Henne is the same as the Jets had with Mark Sanchez last year: do not make mistakes, just manage the game. Henne has done just that having not turned the ball over yet in two games and throwing for one touchdown.
Look for the Dolphins to continue with this ideology against the Jets unless the Dolphins are trailing (which they have yet to trail thus far in two games) by 10 or more points. I don't see Miami coaches unleashing Chad Henne against a defense such as the Jets. It is possible though, in week 4 that Henne and his arm can make an appearance on the field.
Some may say this is unfair due to Henne's 46 yard pass on the first play on offense but after that play Henne passed for another 68 yards for the remainder of the game.
Besides Ronnie Brown's 51 yard run (which the Dolphins ended up punting on that drive) the Phins ran another 26 times for 69 yards which is an average of 2.65 yards per carry.
My game ball on offense goes to Jake Long who contained an aggressive pass rusher in Jared Allen. Allen did make a sack but it was on a broken play in which Henne attempted to gain positive yardage but fell short by one yard when he was tackles by Allen. Long also was the main reason for Ronnie Brown dashing down the sideline on a 51 yard run, on a play that started at their own 1 yard line.
So just how did the Miami Dolphins win this game? DEFENSE!!
Mike Nolan and his young guns showed just exactly what had Bill Parcels and Tony Sporano salivating in the offseason.
Without first round draft pick Jared Odrick and starting linebacker Channing Crowder, the defense did not miss a beat. They allowed 10 points (7 of which came on a possession that started inside their own 5 yard line due to a Ricky Williams fumble) and forced four turnovers.
The defense also scored as many points as the dolphins offense: 7
Jason Allen showed why he has overtaken the starting job from Sean Smith as he had 2 interceptions, one of which was inside Miami's own 5 yard line ending the scoring threat.
My game ball on the defensive side goes to Vontae Davis who played an outstanding game. Davis also had an interception inside Miami's own 5 yard line, snatching the ball from Percy Harvin's desperate hands. Without the stellar play of Vontae Davis, Brett Favre doesn't attack Jason Allen's side of the ball.
So far in both games Vontae Davis has been thrown at only 5 times.
Davis also made the tackle on a crucial 4th and goal play, taking down Adrian Peterson at the one yard line to give Miami the ball back with 2:16 left in the game.
Cameron Wake was once again a difference maker on the defense recording 1.5 sacks on the day and forcing a huge fumble in the Vikings own endzone which resulted in the Dolphins touchdown on defense.
So far this season the Dolphins defense has played outstanding but the true test is the next two upcoming games. Next week the Dolphins face off against their bitter rivals the New York Jets in their home opener and the following week against the New England Patriots before they head into the bye.
