Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and Over 100 Mocks: 2010 NFL Mock Draft Crunch
First off, let me just say I am sick of mock drafts. Sick of looking at them, sick of āanalyzingā them, and sick of doing them.
I am damn ready for the real draft to be here!
That said, I had this idea for a draft awhile back and wanted to at least give it a go before the actual draft. Yes, I am a little bit twisted when it comes to mock drafts. I just canāt help it.Ā
Now this may or may not be a very good mock draft; I will leave that for you to decide. However, I had more fun doing this mock than any of the others.
I found this Web site called FantasyFootballJungle.com. I am sure some of you are familiar with it. Like many draft sites it has a section where it ranks draft prospects.
However, on this site, and in this particular section, you can click on each player and find out the top four teams that could be drafting said player. This information is based on the number of mock drafts that have that player going to each of the four teams.Ā
Confused?
Too badāit is just a mock draft!
But really, here is how it works:
Example One: Brandon Graham goes to the Atlanta Falcons because 39.7 percent of mock drafts say so. The second team most likely to select him would be the New England Patriots because 13.8 percent of mock drafts have him going there. The third most likely landing spot would be the Tennessee Titans with 6.9 percent.

Got it? Good.
So I started at the top of the list of prospects and worked my way down. In a case where a player received a higher percentage to a particular team, and I had already selected a player for that team, the previously selected player was ābumpedā to their second most likely landing spot, and so on.
Example Two: 24.8 percent of mocks have Jason Pierre-Paul going to the Titans and 19.8 percent of drafts have him landing with the Jags. Pierre-Paul goes to the Jags because 25.6 percent of the drafts have Derrick Morgan being selected by the Titans.
For the most part the team listed in parenthesis is the second most likely landing place for that player. If a player is listed in parenthesis he is the player (according to the percentage of mocks) that would have been selected if another team hadnāt come in with a higher percentage.
After all, you canāt have a player going to two different teams! (OK, I admit that I have done that in previous mocks, but only once or twice!).
So by the time I finished with the top 40 or so prospects, I should have my mock completeāright?
Not exactly.
I ended up with two teams, the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles, with no selections.
I also ended up with Dez Bryant, Earl Thomas, and Everson Griffin without a team, and their respective rankings dictate probable first-round selections.
The Giants' highest pick was Rolando McClain, but he was off the board to the Broncos, and no other team surfaced as an alternate landing spot.
With the Eagles there was just no clear-cut favorite.
The Giants ended up with their second-highest percentage player, Sean Weatherspoon, even though a higher percentage (but not by much!) have him going to the Cardinals.
The Cardinals ended up with āwildcardā Everson Griffen because he is ranked higher than their second highest percentage player Jerry Hughes, who landed with the Jets anyway, and there was no third team.
Bryant goes to his No. 2 team; the Bengals, and Gresham gets bumped to the Ravens. Jared Odrick is the odd man out.
So that just leaves the Eagles and Earl Thomas. The Eagles traded Sheldon Brown and Thomas can play safety or cornerāa perfect match!
Some might think this is too low for Thomas, but he was bumped out of all four of his teams (Texans 15.5, Jags 13.8, 49ers 11.2, Dolphins 9.5).
OK, so now that youāre thoroughly confused, here is the complete list.
I have to get to MDAA (Mock Draft Addicts Anonymous), so I will see you Thursday evening!
