2010 NFL Draft: Jimmy Clausen Makes His Case To Be No. 1 Pick
The NFL world is just a few hours away from witnessing Jimmy Clausen's Pro Day.
This Pro Day is, well, the most important since Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow performed.
Clausen has been part of the ongoing discussion for the past week. Since the Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to the Redskins, Clausen's stock has gone up in flames.
As of now, the Raiders, Bills, and Jaguars seem the likely teams for his services, maybe even the Cardinals and Vikings if Clausen sees a drastic slide.
However, we still need to consider the St. Louis Rams, despite most people seeing Sam Bradford as the only option at the number one overall selection.
Up to this point, the Rams seem to be avoiding the Sam Bradford buzz.
Whether it was working out Colt McCoy yesterday, or visiting Clausen today, the Rams are looking at the top quarterback prospects in this years draft.
The Rams apparently came away impressed with McCoy, who showed a great deal of arm strength and accuracy during the workout.
As I mentioned yesterday, ESPN Trent Dilfer feels the Rams should take Ndamukong Suh with the first overall selection, followed by drafting McCoy in the second round.
Regarding Clausen, Dilfer feels his experience in a Pro Style offense makes him the most ready now.
And we can't forget Clausen's biggest supporter in ESPN's Mel Kiper.
Kiper believes Clausen is the best quarterback in this years class. He even says not one person he has talked to has given him a valid reason for why Clausen isn't worth the top selection.
The biggest questions on Clausen is his attitude, and his ability to lead on the field.
Kiper does bring up a good point, saying Clausen took on a much bigger leadership role this season, and was well respected by his teammates.
As we examine Clausen's Pro Day, there are a few ideas worth noting.
Clausen will not be 100% tomorrow, still healing from an injured toe which he had surgery on a couple of months ago.
Thus, don't expect to much running, even during the long throwing drills of the combine.
Based on reports, we can come to the conclusion that Clausen's toe should be healed when training camp rolls around, and should not raise a red flag at his Pro Day tomorrow.
Mainly, Clausen needs to show his ability to be consistent on the long ball, as it did lack from time to time during the 2009 season.
NFL writers continue to debate Clausen's impact on the NFL level. Is he the next Brady Quinn, a former player under Charlie Weis' " Pro Style offense" that became a disappointment for the Browns.
Despite the performance Clausen puts on during his Pro Day, there will be questions, and the criticism will not go away.
However, Clausen could be the one that has the last laugh, if he ends up being selected first overall by the Rams in 13 days at Radio City Music Hall.
