NFL Rumors: Latest Buzz on Odell Beckham Jr., Ndamukong Suh and More

Chris RolingMar 26, 2018

The NFL's rumor mill simply isn't going away this year.

With even March Madness nearing an end, the rumblings surrounding the NFL when it comes to free agency and trades typically fall back as the draft starts to seize the spotlight.

Not this year. Ndamukong Suh is still a massive name on the market, and now the league has watched an unexpected drama pop up between a team and their star player—a guy who is one of the top-five offensive weapons in the league outright.

With it being hard to keep pace sometimes, let's step back and look at the notables.

Delvin Breaux

It's often odd for a starting-caliber cornerback to still be on the market at this point of the offseason, which usually lends to the idea the player has some baggage.

With Delvin Breaux, the baggage is injuries. He played in just six games with the New Orleans Saints in 2016 and then missed the entirety of the 2017 season. But as Saints fans might not-so-fondly remember, the team is the one that botched his diagnosis last year and fired the team orthopedists

Injury history or not, Breaux has had a market develop. He visited the New England Patriots, according to Nick Underhill of The Advocate. He's now getting attention from the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers, according to Underhill's colleague, Joel A. Erickson:

Both fits make plenty of sense. The Packers brought back Tramon Williams but could use the depth, especially if Breaux is open to moving around the defensive secondary. San Francisco is gobbling up as much talent as it can right now, and adding a 28-year-old corner with starting upside to a unit featuring Richard Sherman is never a bad idea.

As one can see, though, Breaux has some options and is in a case where he can play the market. It will likely end in a one-year prove-it deal, but if he can stay healthy, a gigantic extension could await.

Ndamukong Suh

The Suh sweepstakes seems far from over.

The New York Jets apparently pulled their offer for the star defensive tackle because it came equipped with a deadline he didn't meet, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Not that Suh will complain. He had a visit with the Oakland Raiders, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, and Yahoo Sports' Jordan Schultz said he liked his visits with the Saints and Tennessee Titans.

Meanwhile, ESPN's Dianna Russini reported the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys had an interest at one point, and Schultz also brought up the Los Angeles Rams.

That's what the market for a superstar looks like when the process is transparent.

The latest comes from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who reported the Rams have emerged as the leader:

This wasn't too hard to see coming. One can presume Suh wants to land in the best possible situation. Not only will it help him compete for titles, it'll improve the chances he looks good over the course of what could be a short-term deal at the age of 31, setting him up for one more potential big payday.

Suh has done an outstanding job of finding big, unique contracts so far, and another one here from a Rams team that wants to compete for a title seems likely.

And it's a scary proposition for the rest of the league—Suh and Aaron Donald on the same line is the definition of formidable.

Odell Beckham Jr.

There is once again major drama surrounding New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and this time it feels like major changes could happen as a result.

Beckham was apparently caught on camera in a bad situation during his offseason at a time he and his camp were trying to work on a new contract with the Giants.

This is obviously a major strike against Beckham in those negotiations, which Giants co-owner John Mara made clear enough, as captured by New York Post's Paul Schwartz:

Readers can probably see where this is going. Holdout.

The real kicker here is sure, in some odd timeline the Giants trade away Beckham. They're rebuilding, he'd fetch a major price and propel the process.

But that doesn't clear up the issue surrounding his contract, as Rapoport reported:

Trading for Beckham on its own is a risky proposition. He's had his name come up in a few not-so-great dramas surrounding the Giants over the years, and the future assets a team would have to give the Giants in return would perhaps be more than we've seen in a trade. There's also the matter of paying him what he wants should he hold out.

Yet Beckham is still a 25-year-old wideout who might hold best-in-league status. Over just 47 games, he's tallied 4,424 yards and 38 touchdowns. He's a free agent after this upcoming final year of his rookie deal, where he'd reset the wideout market handsomely either way.

For a team coming off a three-win season and seemingly leaning toward a rebuild, the Giants are now the team to watch this offseason as the Beckham drama unfolds.
