Fantasy Football Week 13: Friday's Daily Fantasy Market Report
We are just days away from the Sunday slate of games for Week 13 of the fantasy football season.
Week 13 kicked off with the Dallas Cowboys going up against the Minnesota Vikings on the road and coming away with the victory. While it was fairly low scoring, it was a competitive game until the end, with the Cowboys winning 17-15.
The Sunday slate of games has plenty of upside at the wide receiver position this week.
As we head into the weekend, I'll give you my top value plays (factoring in price and projected ownership) of the week from each position:
Quarerback: Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers. While he's the third highest-priced quarterback on DraftKings, he's going to be low owned in comparison to New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees or even Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford. I also like Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson here. He comes in at $6,300 on DraftKings.
Running back: Jeremy Hill, Cincinnati Bengals. Yeah, he draws the Philadelphia Eagles this week, but Hill had six catches in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens while also adding 21 yards. The Eagles are a tough defense overall, but they aren't on the same level as the Ravens when it comes to defending the run.
Wide Receiver: Will Fuller, Houston Texans. There are other solid lower-priced wide receiver options on this slate, but you'll find them later on in this slideshow. Look, Fuller and the entire Texans team has just ticked everyone off, but going up against this Green Bay Packers secondary—I just can't pass up on it.
Tight end: Josh Hill, New Orleans Saints. Going back to the well here. In Week 12, Hill caught six passes for 74 yards. This week, the Saints host the Lions in a game that could honestly have 70 combined points. Since Week 4, Hill has played in more snaps than fellow tight end Coby Fleener, too. Hill is a great, minimum-priced tight end option. Arizona Cardinals tight end Jermaine Gresham is another option here.
There are some injuries we need to keep track of and monitor when practice reports come out later today, but Thursday has given us quite the strong indication of what to expect.
Broncos QB Trevor Siemian DNP Thursday
1 of 7
According to Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post, Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian did not practice Thursday.
Although Jeff Legwold of ESPN reported that Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said Siemian could still play despite practicing, it's hard to buy that.
If Siemian is out, I'm even less of a fan of this game than I was prior to this news.
Seriously, the other plays here are the Broncos defense and maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars if backup quarterback Paxton Lynch starts.
This is just a bad game to target and has a total score of 40, according to Odds Shark.
Avoid the skill guys here.
Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski Needs Back Surgery
2 of 7
Well, this nearly broke the Twittersphere Thursday afternoon.
According to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has a herniated disk and will require back surgery.
With this news, Gronkowski is going to be out a while, if not the rest of the season.
For the Week 13 DFS slate, a tight end that piques my interest is the Seattle Seahawks' Jimmy Graham, who will be at home against a Carolina Panthers secondary that ranks 20th in DVOA against tight ends but is also just not good.
After Graham, I'm probably spending down at tight end this week—the Arizona Cardinals' Jermaine Gresham and New Orleans Saints' Josh Hill are two great examples. In order to fit in a couple of studs you will need to do so.
Also, with Gronk now out, the Patriots will continue to utilize their newfound red-zone target—wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, who is just $3,600 on DraftKings. With this news, I'd expect his ownership to skyrocket so it could be fairly chalky, but this is tough to pass on, especially if he draws coverage from Los Angeles Rams cornerback E.J. Gaines who ranks 117th in coverage among 120 qualified cornerbacks. Yeah—117th.
To recap: at tight end, Graham or pay down and target Mitchell.
Bills WR Marquise Goodwin Injures Wrist in Practice
3 of 7
OK, who has the voodoo dolls of the Buffalo Bills wide receivers?
According to Mike Rodak of ESPN, Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin injured his wrist during Thursday's practice and did not finish.
It's unclear whether this will impact his playing status in Week 13, but it comes at almost the worst time.
If Goodwin is able to play, this is a great matchup against the Oakland Raiders I'd be willing to exploit.
If Goodwin is unable to play, I don't hate fellow wide receiver Sammy Watkins here, but Bills offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn did mention that he wasn't sure how involved Watkins would be this week, as Rodak also reports.
However, if Goodwin misses this game, Watkins may be forced to play quite a bit. Another fellow wide receiver, Percy Harvin, is doubtful for Week 13, according to Chris Brown of the Bills' official site.
Chargers WR Tyrell Williams DNP Thursday
4 of 7
According to Eric Williams of ESPN, San Diego Chargers wide receiver Tyrell Williams did not practice on Thursday.
Williams almost missed practice on Wednesday, so this is not looking good.
This comes in the wake of news that Williams is dealing with a labrum injury in his right shoulder.
We need Williams to at least get in a limited practice Friday, or else you can almost assume he won't suit up in this one.
If Williams is ruled out, the easiest DFS pivot is to fellow wide receiver Dontrelle Inman, but he's priced at $5,200 on DraftKings—not exactly the most enticing price tag.
Jaguars RB Chris Ivory 'Unlikely' to Play Week 13
5 of 7
This was sort of expected.
According to Mark Long of the Associated Press, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Ivory is unlikely to play in Week 13 after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 12.
Even if Ivory did suit up, the matchup isn't all that great against the Denver Broncos. Yeah, they haven't been the greatest against the run lately, but this is a game I'm totally fading.
Ivory against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14 is a matchup I'm definitely going to exploit. Hopefully he can suit up then.
Saints RB Mark Ingram DNP Thursday
6 of 7
Well, this would certainly hinder the New Orleans Saints in Week 13.
According to Mike Triplett of ESPN, Saints running back Mark Ingram did not practice Thursday due to a toe injury. It's hard to imagine Ingram sitting this week out but if he doesn't practice Friday, it's not looking so great.
Fellow running back Tim Hightower would be the starter if Ingram is unable to go, and I'd pivot there if necessary—they're facing the Detroit Lions.
They stink on defense in almost every facet besides cornerback Darius Slay.
Redskins TE Jordan Reed DNP Thursday; 'Unlikely to Play'
7 of 7
There is no way this guy is playing this week.
According to John Keim of ESPN, Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed was not seen at practice on Thursday.
Going back to Thanksgiving, Reed suffered a shoulder injury that was diagnosed as a Grade III AC joint sprain, according to Liz Clarke of the Washington Post.
With Reed sitting this one out, this forces me to like wide receiver Pierre Garcon that much more this week.
Garcon should get the same treatment Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Taylor Gabriel got against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12—slot cornerbacks.
If fellow Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson shadows Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson to prevent them from getting burned downfield, Garcon should get plenty of target this week. He won't be that highly owned either—take advantage.
