Fantasy Football Week 12: Wednesday's Daily Fantasy Market Report

Richard JanvrinNov 23, 2016

We're just a day away from Thanksgiving, but perhaps more importantly, Week 12 of the fantasy football season has three games scheduled on Turkey Day.

Wait. Who am I kidding? Thanksgiving is way more important than Week 12, man. Too big a fan of food, but come on now—turkey is overrated, though.

There are a few news developments on players whose teams will play Thursday, and the big one—Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck—is not favorable.

Make sure to keep an eye on these updates and change your fantasy lineups accordingly.

I have no idea what else to say in this intro slide, so let's just end it here and get on with the news!

Bears QB Jay Cutler May Have Torn Labrum

1 of 7

Well, it appears the Chicago Bears could be without quarterback Jay Cutler the rest of the season.

According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Cutler is believed to have a torn labrum but will seek a second opinion.

It's certainly not looking good for Cutler.

This season, Cutler hasn't been of any fantasy value, but he did elevate the value of his pass-catching weapons.

Heading into Week 12, wide receiver Cameron Meredith ($4,700 DraftKings; $5,900 FanDuel) was in a prime position to have a big game, but if Cutler is out and we need to turn to Matt Barkley, it's going to be tough.

For the Bears, it's only Meredith and fellow wide receiver Eddie Royal, so as long as Barkley has a pulse, Meredith should get some targets.

With that said, this is probably more of a Jordan Howard ($5,300 DK; $6,800 FD) game, even with the bad matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

Let's hope that the Titans pile it on against the Bears and Barkley needs to throw (that also scares me a great deal). There's nothing I can say to give any sort of encouragement to a Barkley-led offense. He was terrible in relief of Brian Hoyer against the Green Bay Packers.

To sum it all up, I'd get some exposure to Meredith in guaranteed prize pools, seeing as how his ownership percentage will likely take a hit, and fade Howard in GPPs while being an OK cash game option.

49ers HC Chip Kelly: RB Carlos Hyde 'Main Focus' of Offense

2 of 7

When I came across this news, it made me think, "Well, I'd certainly hope so."

According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com, San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly said that running back Carlos Hyde ($4,800 DK; $6,800 FD) is the "main focus" of the team's offense.

Well, duh.

You mean to tell me there are those who believe that quarterback Colin Kaepernick or wide receivers Quinton Patton and Jeremy Kerley are? Get outta here.

This season, Hyde is averaging nearly 20 touches per game but is averaging under four yards per carry, so effectiveness is a question.

Hyde gets the Miami Dolphins this week, who are surrendering over 125 rushing yards per game but give up the 10th-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing running backs.

Given his workload, Hyde is always in play, and he's under $5,000 on DraftKings.

Give him a look, but keep in mind his involvement in the passing game is minimal—he's one of four top-24 running backs with fewer than 20 targets on the season in points-per-reception leagues.

Colts QB Andrew Luck DNP Tuesday

3 of 7

I'll just get this out of the way: Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is not playing this week. If he does, I'd be shocked.

According to Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star, Luck was not seen at Tuesday's practice, which was the team's final practice of the week prior to its Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Without Luck, we'll see backup quarterback Scott Tolzien, who has thrown one pass since Week 12 of the 2013 season.

For cash games at minimum price, sure, I'm OK with that. But he offers no GPP value, and his receivers will take a hit and will need a touchdown to be solid options this week.

I'll turn to running back Frank Gore ($5,200 DK; $6,500 FD) here.

Texans WR Will Fuller V Takes Backseat to Braxton Miller

4 of 7

The Houston Texans offense continues to be mediocre.

Yeah, running back Lamar Miller finally did something, so I suppose that's something we can hang our hats on.

Looking at the receivers, Will Fuller V made his return in Week 11 on Monday Night Football in Mexico City for the first time since he suffered a leg injury in Week 8.

In his return, Fuller played in just 44 snaps (approximately 58 percent of the team's snaps), but he played behind fellow wide receiver—and rookie—Braxton Miller, who played in 66 snaps and scored a touchdown.

It was Fuller's first game back, so we should not worry about Miller overtaking him on the depth chart.

What we should be worried about is the Texans' passing attack and how terrible quarterback Brock Osweiler is.

I'm not rostering any receiver for the Texans. The only players who are safe are Lamar Miller and tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz.

Vikings WR Stefon Diggs Not Seen at Practice Tuesday

5 of 7

According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs ($6,900 DK; $6,600 FD) was not seen during the media portion of practice on Tuesday.

After Week 11's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, the Vikings listed Diggs as limited with a knee injury.

What makes this development interesting is that the Vikings play the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day, so Diggs has quite the quick turnaround.

My hunch is Diggs will play, considering his "limited" tag from Monday.

If Diggs suits up, he should rebound from his six-catch, 37-yard Week 11 performance and continue his ways of double-digit targets and a ton of catches and yards. If Diggs can do all of that and finally find his way into the end zone, you'll be sitting pretty in your DFS matchups. The Lions are not a scary opponent.

Lions RB Theo Riddick Limited Tuesday

6 of 7

It seems like Lions running back Theo Riddick ($5,400 DK; $6,400 FD) is limited in every single practice.

According to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com, Riddick was just that—limited in practice on Tuesday.

There is no cause for concern here over whether Riddick will play in the Lions' Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Vikings. With that said, hopefully the Lions get Riddick more involved in the passing game than they did the first time around against the Vikings, when Riddick caught just one pass.

Riddick is a great option if you're playing a Thursday-only slate and you want to fade premier running backs like the Steelers' Le'Veon Bell, but this applies only to DFS sites where you get points for receptions like DraftKings. It's hard to get excited about Riddick on FanDuel since the majority of his production comes in the form of catching passes.

If Riddick can catch five or more passes and continue his stretch of double-digit carries (minus Week 11), he is in prime position to exceed value given his salary.

Redskins WR DeSean Jackson Limited at Practice Tuesday

7 of 7

According to Master Tesfatsion of the Washington Post, Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson was limited at Tuesday's practice with a shoulder injury.

There's no cause for concern over Jackson's availability for the Redskins' Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys, but it doesn't matter—I'm not playing him. At all.

With fellow wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Pierre Garcon and tight end Jordan Reed involved, it's hard to get excited about Jackson, even though he caught a touchdown in Week 11 against the Packers.

So should you play DJax this week? Nope.
