Fantasy Football Week 8: Friday's Daily Fantasy Market Report
Well, here we are. Week 8, better known as bye-pocalypse, consists of six teams on bye, creating some fantasy football conundrums on the main, 10-slate contest.
At quarterback there are a handful of guys I'm in on, wide receiver is somewhat top-heavy, running back has value throughout and it's looking like another punt week at tight end.
As a tournament player, the ownership percentages for a lot of my favorite plays this weekend could be tantalizing, but that's where we earn our money—exploiting fellow ownership percentages, and projecting ownership for players.
For instance, Denver Broncos running back Devontae Booker is about as chalky as it gets this week, and I'm going to have 100 percent exposure. Why? Well, if he goes off, at least I won't need to be playing from behind.
On the flip side, someone like Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott could have a lower ownership, regardless of how awesome he's been this season due to the stoutness of his opponent's—the Philadelphia Eagles—defense.
Good luck in Week 8—this is the smallest main slate we'll have to deal with this season.
Browns QB Cody Kessler to Be Cleared from Concussion?
1 of 7
According to May Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, it's possible we see Cleveland Browns quarterback Cody Kessler cleared to play on Friday in the wake of his concussion.
With fellow quarterback Josh McCown back at practice, one would think McCown—who has practiced essentially all week—would draw the start over Kessler.
McCown being active increases the value of tight end Gary Barnidge and wide receiver Terrelle Pryor Sr. In fact, a stack of McCown and either Barnidge or Pryor is something I'm definitely going to explore.
Either way, at least we won't need to worry about fellow quarterback Kevin Hogan under center in Week 8.
Cardinals WR Michael Floyd DNP Thursday
2 of 7
According to John Weinfuss of ESPN, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd missed practice on Thursday.
Going up against a weak Carolina Panthers secondary in Week 8, Floyd was actually in a position to get out of this weird purgatory of three-to-five catches for 60 yards he seems to be stuck in this season, but it's not looking good for him to suit up.
As a result, fellow wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald and, although he didn't practice Thursday, John Brown will definitely see an uptick in value. Not only these two main weapons, but also fellow wide receiver J.J. Nelson in the slot.
Fitzgerald is a top-tier play in Week 8, and Brown and Nelson are worth a look, but man is it tough for me to trust quarterback Carson Palmer. I'd probably go elsewhere but wouldn't be at all surprised if one of these guys has a nice day given the state of the Panthers secondary.
Lions RB Theo Riddick Returns to Practice, Full Go for Week 8
3 of 7
After returning to practice Wednesday on a limited basis, Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick was a full participant in Thursday's session, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive Media Group.
On the road in Week 8 against the Houston Texans, Riddick definitely offers quarterback Matthew Stafford one of the best dump-off options in the league. Not only that, but the Texans have surrendered eight rushing touchdowns this season.
With Riddick returning, this definitely poses a threat to all other fellow running backs, but also wide receiver Golden Tate who has become a legitimate weapon in the Lions' passing attack during Riddick's two-game absence.
Riddick will likely not be very low-owned, making him for a nice tournament play, but it's going to be fairly difficult for him to repeat his Week 1 and Week 5 successes where he scored 27.8 and 26.2 fantasy points on DraftKings, respectively. And, oh, Riddick is probably off the table in FanDuel where players get just 0.5 points per reception, as opposed to DraftKings' one point per reception.
Redskins TE Jordan Reed to Travel to London
4 of 7
When you couple the long flight to London with the fact that the Washington Redskins have a bye week in Week 9, I was actually surprised that tight end Jordan Reed is traveling to London.
That's right—Reed is likely to play after heading across the pond with the team, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Given that he is traveling on what would be an arduous trip for someone with concussion-like symptoms persisting, Reed should be a full go on Sunday.
When Reed plays, you play him regardless. He has the upside to finish as the TE1 in season-long leagues, so don't fret—play him.
Bills RB LeSean McCoy '50/50' for Week 8
5 of 7
If Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy plays in Week 8, we need to criticize head coach Rex Ryan more than he probably will be.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, McCoy is "50/50" to play in Week 8.
I mean, you have McCoy, who, leading up to Week 7 was dealing with a hamstring injury and was essentially ruled out but was ultimately active. In Week 7, McCoy left the game prematurely after aggravating that injury.
Seems like the same thing here. McCoy should not play based on the fact that it's the New England Patriots in Week 8—sit him down, let fellow running back Mike Gillislee get the work, and look forward to him returning Week 9.
No matter who's out there, I'm not touching the Bills backfield in DFS this week as projected game script does not appear to be in their favor.
Bills WR Robert Woods 'Very Limited' at Thursday Practice
6 of 7
According to Joe Buscaglia of 7 Eyewitness News, Buffalo Bills wide receiver was "very limited" at Thursday's practice due to a lingering foot injury.
At this point, there is some doubt that Woods plays, but it feels like he should anyway given the amount of time between now and Week 8's kickoff.
However, it would certainly make the Bills receivers easier to choose from if Woods were to sit. Who knows how much Woods will play? Granted, head coach Rex Ryan likes to thrust players into action prematurely (see McCoy, LeSean), so who knows.
If Woods were to sit, I like fellow wide receiver Justin Hunter as a dart throw—someone has to get targets from quarterback Tyrod Taylor in a game in which he should have to throw.
Redskins RB Matt Jones DNP
7 of 7
According to John Keim of ESPN, Washington Redskins running back Matt Jones did not practice Thursday.
I'm going to say Jones is not going to play in Week 8.
Look, the team left for London on Thursday, and who knows what kind of a practice they'll get in on Friday.
Also, this could serve as a nice mental week off for Jones who continues to have fumbling issues in his career.
Across the pond in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals, I'm only interested in fellow running back Chris Thompson somewhat on DraftKings where you get one point per reception.
In the end, the best way to describe the Redskins backfield is just "blah."
