Fantasy Football Week 3: Friday's Daily Fantasy Market Report
In the wake of Thursday Night Football, it was a rather slow news day regarding the games coming up this weekend for fantasy football.
Before we get started, we all need to appreciate what the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick did, shutting out the Houston Texans with third-string, rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
As mentioned before, Thursday leading into Friday was rather slow, but of course, there were some nuggets of information worth noting.
Good luck in DFS this weekend, and let's make some money.
Broncos TE Virgil Green a Game-Time Decision
1 of 7
According to Troy Renck of ABC affiliate Denver7, Denver Broncos tight end Virgil Green is expected to be a game-time decision in Week 3.
Through the first two games of the season, Green has caught seven passes for 74 yards but has yet to find the end zone.
With Green out, fellow tight end John Phillips would take over as the starter if Green and another fellow tight end, Jeff Heuerman, are unable to go.
None of these guys are worth rostering this week.
Bears WR Alshon Jeffery DNP Thursday
2 of 7
Could the Chicago Bears be without their starting quarterback Jay Cutler and No. 1 wide receiver Alshon Jeffery?
After Thursday's practice report was released it seems possible, as he did not practice, according to Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune.
Usually when you see a player not practicing late in the week it's a cause for concern, but I'm not thinking this will be an issue.
Paired with backup quarterback Brian Hoyer this week, Jeffery isn't someone I'm going to force into my lineup.
Bills WR Sammy Watkins to Sit Week 3?
3 of 7
Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan usually says whatever he feels like, but on this, who knows?
According to Mike Rodak of ESPN, there is growing concern that wide receiver Sammy Watkins could sit out Week 3 due to his everlasting foot injury.
This is possible, as there have been reports since after Week 1 of Watkins being out for "x" amount of time.
If Watkins were to sit, fellow wide receiver Robert Woods is an intriguing Hail Mary play, but going up against the Arizona Cardinals, I'm not a huge fan.
Hopefully Watkins can suit up.
Bengals TE Tyler Eifert Limited in Practice Thursday
4 of 7
According to Katherine Terrell of ESPN, Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis.
While this is a great step for his return, expect him to be inactive this week and ready to go in Week 4.
The Bengals will continue to use fellow tight ends C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Kroft against Denver in Week 3.
I'll pass.
Ravens QB Joe Flacco Wants to Feed WR Mike Wallace
5 of 7
Some good news out of Baltimore on Thursday.
According to Jamison Hensley of ESPN, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco wants to "keep feeding" wide receiver Mike Wallace ($5,000 DraftKings; $6,500 FanDuel).
Through the first couple of games this season, he's done just that, catching seven passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
In Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, don't be surprised if Flacco connects with Wallace deep once again.
I'll roster the speedster in some of my lineups.
Browns WR Corey Coleman out 4-6 Weeks
6 of 7
Although we already knew about Cleveland Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman breaking his hand from yesterday's Daily Market Report, we weren't sure of the severity and how long the rookie would be out for.
According to ProFootballTalk, the Baylor product does not need surgery, but he will miss 4-6 weeks.
While this obviously doesn't change anything for DFS purposes in Week 3 for Coleman, it will in a few weeks.
With the Browns starting rookie quarterback Cody Kessler and wide receiver Terrelle Pryor set to be the team's No. 1 wide receiver, nothing from the Browns is appealing, but the Miami Dolphins ($3,000 DK; $4,600 FD)—who they play in Week 3—defense does.
Lions HC Jim Caldwell Claims RB Theo Riddick to Be 'Lead Guy'
7 of 7
With a foot injury that landed second-year Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah on injured reserve, Lions head coach Jim Caldwell has dubbed his main pass-catching back Theo Riddick ($4,900 DK; $6,400 FD) as the "lead guy," according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.
Based on his pass-catching prowess, Riddick is already guaranteed a set number of touches. As far as running the ball, however, his upside is limited.
Since coming into the league in 2013, Riddick has never carried the ball more than 11 times in a game, and that happened in Week 2 this season.
As the season progresses, we should expect rookie running back Dwayne Washington's ($3,600 DK; $4,500 FD) role to expand.
In DFS, however, Riddick is a worth a play against the Green Bay Packers in a game in which Vegas believes Detroit will be playing from behind, per Odds Shark.
