Fantasy Football Week 3: Tuesday's Daily Fantasy Market Report

Richard JanvrinSep 20, 2016

Week 2 was a dreadful week for running backs in fantasy football.

As Adam Schefter of ESPN points out, seven running backs suffered injuries of varying severity.

The most critical was San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead, who will miss the season with a torn ACL.

Spoiler alert: We will talk about Woodhead here.

These running back injuries are something you can expect to see updated daily as the week goes on.

Before we get to the running backs, let's touch on the Cleveland Browns quarterback situation. Who knows, I could be playing quarterback for them by Week 4.

Browns QB Josh McCown out Awhile

1 of 10

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown is set to miss multiple games due to a shoulder injury.

You're probably wondering who the heck the next quarterback for the Browns is. Well, it's rookie Cody Kessler.

As you can imagine, this greatly hinders their chances at not only production from their skill-position players, but a reasonable shot at winning a game.

In Week 3, the Browns will take on the Miami Dolphins ($3,000 DK; $4,600 FD)—a defense that limited the Seattle Seahawks to just 12 points in Week 1, yet were slaughtered by New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Dolphins are worth a play next week, especially at their price tag.

Lions to Expand RB Dwayne Washington Role

2 of 10

Following the foot injury to Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah, the team is expected to lend more touches to rookie running back Dwayne Washington ($3,600 DK; $4500 FD), according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

While it's uncertain how much time Abdullah will miss (if any), Josina Anderson of ESPN is reporting that the second-year back is set to visit Dr. Robert Anderson to further evaluate his foot.

Although Washington is set to see more work, the back to roster here is quite obviously Theo Riddick ($4,900 DK; $6,400 FD).

In Week 3, the Lions will travel to Lambeau Field and take on the Green Bay Packers.

At his price tag, Washington is a boom-or-bust pick.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles Says He's Not Ready

3 of 10

According to Terez Paylor of the Kansas City StarKansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles has told head coach Andy Reid that he's not ready to play.

Coming off his second ACL tear in his career, this may lead to a season-long ordeal.

Moving forward, keep playing fellow running back Spencer Ware in DFS. When/if Charles returns, expect the Chiefs to move him along slowly.

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson Tears Meniscus

4 of 10

After starting off the year with minimal production, we saw what was perhaps the end of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson's season.

In Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers, Peterson went down with what looked like a scary lower-leg injury that resulted in him being carried off the field.

However, there is some good news.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has announced that the 31-year-old has a torn meniscus.

While this will most likely result in missed time, at least it's not the entire 2016 season.

The biggest question that lingers is which running back to roster in DFS on the Vikings: Matt Asiata ($3,000 DK; $4,600 FD) or Jerick McKinnon ($3,800 DK; $5,300 FD)?

Well, according to Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "expect a 63/35 split," in favor of McKinnon.

This makes sense.

Although Asiata will claim the goal-line carries, McKinnon is the superior athlete with the ability to take it to the house on any given play. McKinnon also possesses superior pass-catching skills.

While it is possible that Asiata could vulture some goal-line touchdowns in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers, McKinnon is the guy to roster here, especially on DraftKings, where it works like a PPR season-long league.

Jets WR Brandon Marshall Has MCL Injury?

5 of 10

Following the report from ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio that New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall has an MCL injury, Jets head coach Todd Bowles quickly refuted that, saying it was untrue, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

No matter—we'll figure it out as the week goes on.

In the event Marshall has an injury that will sideline him, expect rising star and fellow Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa ($4,800 DK; $6,000 FD) to take his place.

Enunwa has been off to a hot start this season and is close to must-play in Week 3 when the Jets take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dolphins RB Arian Foster Listed as 'Day-to-Day'

6 of 10

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase has listed running back Arian Foster as "day-to-day" with a groin injury.

We've seen this a number of times with Foster—you know, the soft-tissue injuries.

Based on his "day-to-day" designation, one would think Foster has a decent shot at playing in Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns.

However, based on his history of this kind of injury as well as the opponent themselves, it may be wise for the Dolphins to just sit Foster down for this one.

If Foster is out, expect second-year back Jay Ajayi ($4,000 DK; $5,700 FD) to take over the majority of the snaps.

In a game where the Dolphins figure to be up, Ajayi could see a decent number of carries. With that said, the Dolphins will likely work fellow running back Kenyan Drake in here and there.

Based on his anticipated volume, Ajayi is worth a stab in DFS this week.

Chargers RB Danny Woodhead Done for the Season with Torn ACL

7 of 10

The injuries are mounting for the San Diego Chargers.

In back-to-back weeks, the Chargers have lost key skill-position players to torn ACL's.

In Week 1, it was wide receiver Keenan Allen.

Now it's running back Danny Woodhead, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Despite these injuries, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers tossed four touchdown passes against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

From here on out, expect fellow running back Melvin Gordon ($5,800 DK; $7,100 FD) to have greater involvement.

Woodhead's injury (in addition to Allen's) greatly deteriorates Rivers' long-term statistical production.

In Week 3, the Chargers will take on the Indianapolis Colts—a team that is giving up 4.4 yards-per-carry and over a touchdown a game.

Start Gordon in Week 3.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart to Miss Some Time

8 of 10

According to Max Henson of the Carolina Panthers' official site, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera has confirmed that running back Jonathan Stewart will miss "at least a week or two" with a hamstring injury.

From here, the Panthers will rely on fellow running backs Fozzy Whittaker and Cameron Artis-Payne, despite Artis-Payne being inactive the first two weeks of the season.

This looks like a huge mess and a backfield I'd want nothing to do with.

In all honesty, quarterback Cam Newton will likely be the leading rusher in Stewart's absence.

Colts WR Donte Moncrief Has Shoulder Injury

9 of 10

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Donte Moncrief is set to have an MRI on his shoulder.

In the second quarter of Week 2, Moncrief took a hit from Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward which led to the injury.

As we await the results of this MRI, fellow wide receiver Phillip Dorsett ($4,400 DK; $6,000 FD) makes for an intriguing DFS play should Moncrief sit for any time.

The Colts will take on the San Diego Chargers in Week 3.

Giants RB Rashad Jennings to Be Limited in Practice with Hand Injury

10 of 10

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings will be a "limited" participant in Wednesday's practice after suffering a hand injury in Week 2.

After playing roughly half the snaps in Week 2, we should expect Jennings to play in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins.

However, this situation is worth monitoring in the event Jennings has a set back.

If Jennings were to miss Week 3, fellow running back Shane Vereen ($3,700 DK; $5,200 FD) will see more work, as well as rookie Paul Perkins and Orleans Darkwa seeing more playing time.

Vereen makes for a juicy play if Jennings is out.
