Fantasy Football Week 2: Wednesday's Daily Fantasy Market Report

Richard JanvrinSep 14, 2016

I've got to be honest with you—it's been slow overall on the fantasy football news front.

With that said, there are some noteworthy items to update you on. Some are updates on injuries to a few big-name players, while others are speculations as to opportunities for younger players around the league as a result of their performances, fellow players' injuries or both.

I wish we had more news for you, but here are seven solid topics to discuss and catch up on as we prepare our DFS lineups for Week 2 of the 2016 NFL season.

Chiefs RB Likely to Sit Out Again in Week 2

1 of 7

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs could sit running back Jamaal Charles in Week 2 as he continues to recover from the second ACL tear of his career.

This report confirms our suspicions in Tuesday's market report.

Looks like it's going to be up to running back Spencer Ware ($6,100 DraftKings; $6,800 FanDuel) once again against the Houston Texans.

Ware is especially valuable on DFS venues that give points for receptions.

Chargers WR Tyrell Williams Ready to Pick Up the Slack

2 of 7

With the season-ending injury to wide receiver Keenan Allen, the San Diego Chargers will be looking for a guy to take over and try to emulate Allen's production.

That guy could be fellow wide receiver Tyrell Williams ($3,700 DK; $5,400 FD), according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune

With regard to the opportunity, Williams said: "When that happened (in 2013), Keenan was able to come in there but also Vincent Brown and Eddie Royal. Everyone elevated their games. All of us in our roomIsaiah (Burse), Dontrelle (Inman), Travis (Benjamin)with all of us, we'll be fine."

In Week 1, Williams caught two of five targets for 71 yards.

At 6'4", Williams presents a matchup nightmare on the outside against almost every defensive back in the league.

Going up against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, the 24-year-old will be a big play waiting to happen.

At his modest price tag, give him a look this week, especially in GPPs.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz to Miss Multiple Games?

3 of 7

In Tuesday's market update, we covered the possibility that Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz could miss a couple of games with a rib displacement.

However, it's possible he could miss even more time, according to Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer

Not much has changed in terms of his injury; it remains a week-to-week concern.

Behind Ertz are fellow tight ends Trey Burton and Brent Celek, and neither one is worth a look in DFS.

49ers WR Jeremy Kerley Leads Team in Targets Week 1

4 of 7

Leading up to Week 1, there were reports that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jeremy Kerley ($3,000 DK; $4,700 FD) could be a key part of the 49ers offense.

Well, that proved to be the case for Kerley against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.

First of all, a quick side note: The Rams looked pathetic on MNF.

Moving on, Kerley is becoming an intriguing DFS play on outlets that give points for receptions.

In Week 1, Kerley caught seven of his team-high 11 targets for 61 yards. Outside of this stat line, 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert missed Kerley over the middle of the field, which probably would have been a touchdown.

It is clear that the 49ers value Kerley—a player who has bounced around the league to this point.

Going up against a Carolina Panthers secondary in Week 2 that is young and, quite frankly, not great, Kerley likely has the highest upside among the cheaper plays on DFS this weekend.

Falcons HC Dan Quinn Will Continue RBBC

5 of 7

The running back carousel is expected to continue with the Atlanta Falcons, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com.

"We know both these guys are going to be a factor," Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said. "We just had two running backs active (Sunday), so for the whole portion of the game, both of them have done significant things really well. We’re going to utilize them both."

In Week 1, running back Tevin Coleman ($4,500 DK; $6,100 FD) outperformed fellow running back Devonta Freeman ($6,100 DK; $7,400 FD), most notably in the passing game.

Leading up to Week 2, Freeman is the more expensive of the two backs.

The Falcons will travel to take on the Oakland Raiders in Week 2. In Week 1, the Raiders found themselves in a shootout with the New Orleans Saints, so the rushing attack against the Raiders was not as potent from Saints running back Mark Ingram and Co.

The Raiders have a good-looking defense on paper. Let's see if it can contain Freeman and Coleman.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson to Play Week 2?

6 of 7

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Seattle Seahawks are "confident" that quarterback Russell Wilson ($7,400 DK; $8,400 FD) will suit up and play Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Tell you what—if Wilson does suit up, I'm going to take a swing at him in DFS.

Did you see the Rams on Monday Night Football? They got their butts handed to them by the San Francisco 49ers, 28-0.

How is that even possible?

In any case, if Wilson plays, get him in some of your lineups. One has to believe the Rams will improve, as they have a number of great players, but it's clear that the coaching staff is proving to be incompetent once again.

Jaguars RB Chris Ivory Released from Hospital

7 of 7

When the initial reports of Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Ivory being admitted to the hospital came out early this past Sunday morning, it was definitely a cause for concern.

To this point, we still have no idea what was wrong. But hey, the good news is that Ivory has been released from the hospital and is doing fine, according to Tom Pelissero of USA Today.

Although he has been released, we have to figure he is a long shot to play in Week 2 against the San Diego Chargers.

As a result, fellow running back T.J. Yeldon ($4,700 DK; $6,500 FD) will be the primary back once again.

In Week 1, Yeldon was ineffective overall with his 25 total touches, but he did manage to score a touchdown.

This time around, Yeldon should have better luck against a Chargers defense that is, well, for lack of a better term, not good.

Roll Yeldon out again in Week 2.
