Fantasy Football Week 1: Wednesday's Daily Fantasy Market Report
Each day, news in the football world circulates that could directly effect both your season-long fantasy football teams and your daily fantasy lineups.
In what you can expect to be a daily slideshow, we will cover developments around the league and make recommendations for your DFS teams based on this news.
It's astonishing how much can change in just one day.
Deciphering coachspeak is always fun—just be thankful we do it for you.
Look for another update tomorrow!
Seahawks Won't Rush RB Thomas Rawls; List Michael as Starter
1 of 9
Contrary to his first report about Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls ($6,000 DK; $7,400 FD) starting Week 1, Sheil Kapadia of ESPN reported that head coach Pete Carroll does "not want to rush" Rawls back.
Not only that, but Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reported that the team has in fact put fellow running back Christine Michael ($3,700 DK; $4,800 FD) ahead of Rawls on the depth chart.
Well, this kind of sucks, doesn't it?
This is one of those news items that could either be coachspeak to throw off the opposing team's game-planning off, but this has the makings of a headache for the first few weeks, at least.
Both Rawls and Michael are a bit dicey, but they have a juicy matchup at home against the Miami Dolphins.
Hopefully we'll get more clarity on this saga as the week goes on—it seems to change every six hours.
Vikings WR Stefon Diggs Playing Slot in 3WR Sets
2 of 9
It's an expected nuance of the Minnesota Vikings offense, but nevertheless, wide receiver Stefon Diggs ($4,800 DK; $6,300) has seen the most time in the slot in three wide receiver sets, according to Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
This is great news for daily fantasy purposes, especially if you play on DraftKings, where PPR rules apply.
Again, it's no surprise, as Diggs was a breakout player in his rookie season with the Vikings in 2015.
His modest price tag could perhaps be influenced by Shaun Hill, the Vikings' starting quarterback in Week 1.
However, Diggs is likely the go-to man for Hill, making Diggs an intriguing play in Week 1, with his potential ownership percentage perhaps being low.
Packers WR Jordy Nelson a Full Go?
3 of 9
Like Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls, there are some question marks in regard to the availability of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson ($7,700 DK; $8,400 FD) in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On Monday, Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported that Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said that Nelson will "be full bore" in Week 1.
However, Packers reporter Rob Demovsky of ESPN has his doubts, writing, "Given that Nelson did not play a single game snap in the preseason and only returned to full practice drills eight days ago, it would seem to be an arduous task to ask Nelson to go the distance."
Demovsky also noted that McCarthy could have just been saying "be full bore" in an attempt to alter their Week 1 opponent's game plan.
Both are sensible arguments—some I wouldn't argue.
At his current price tag, Nelson presents some risk, of course, but Nelson is a big play waiting to happen.
According to the Jaguars' official depth chart, Davon House and rookie Jalen Ramsey are slated to start at cornerback.
Nelson, even with the question marks, is still a solid bet to score this week.
I'm not saying to go out of your way for Nelson, but certainly don't take him out because of this news. If anything, it will make him more rosterable this upcoming week.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins Listed as Bucs' Backup TE
4 of 9
After what was a, well, tumultuous offseason to say the least, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have listed tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins as their backup behind fellow tight end Cameron Brate, according to Buccaneers reporter Jenna Laine of ESPN.
This is no surprise. We all know that Seferian-Jenkins (the artists also known as ASJ) has big-time potential and ability, but Brate has just outplayed ASJ to this point.
The price tags for both of these tight ends are not listed, because you should not bother rostering either.
Stay away.
Giants RB Rashad Jennings to See More Goal-Line Work
5 of 9
According to New York Giants reporter Jordan Raanan of ESPN, running back Rashad Jennings ($5,400 DK; $6,000 FD) is set to see more goal-line work in 2016.
Although it likely flew under the radar, this news makes sense after the team let go of running back Andre Williams, who is now with the San Diego Chargers.
The Giants depth chart now consists of three main backs: Jennings, pass-catching back Shane Vereen and rookie Paul Perkins.
In Week 1, the Giants travel to to Dallas to take on the Cowboys and an offense led by rookie quarterback Dak Prescott.
This is a contest that the Giants should win, thus making the game script favorable for Jennings.
Jennings is worth a play in Week 1 on all daily fantasy sites.
Dolphins Name Arian Foster Starting RB
6 of 9
After failing to truly separate himself this preseason, Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi ($4,200 DK; $6,100 FD) has lost his shot (at least for now) of being the starting running back to veteran Arian Foster ($5,800 DK; $6,500 FD), according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
Unfortunately for Foster and the entire Dolphins offense, they get the tall task of traveling to Seattle to take on the Seahawks.
No bueno.
Don't even think about touching a Dolphins player in this game.
Dolphins WR DeVante Parker Missed Practice Tuesday
7 of 9
According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker missed practice again Tuesday.
As we've been learning over this past week or so, Parker is dealing with what is reportedly injuries to both hamstrings, per Adam H. Beasley of the Herald.
Not good.
Avoid Parker for Week 1 in DFS—he probably won't even play.
LaFell Ahead of Boyd on Bengals Depth Chart
8 of 9
This one is a little odd.
According to Paul Dehner of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Brandon LaFell is listed ahead of rookie wideout Tyler Boyd on the depth chart.
Although he didn't have a ton of catches this preseason, Boyd showed flashes of big-play ability, making football fans everywhere excited.
Until we have more clarity, I'd avoid every wide receiver on the Bengals except for A.J. Green ($8,400 DK; $8,200 FD).
He'll draw New York Jet cornerback Darrelle Revis in Week 1.
Rams Deactivate QB Jared Goff for Week 1
9 of 9
A strange way to start the return of the Los Angeles Rams?
Yeah, probably.
According to Connor Orr of NFL Network, the Rams have opted to deactivate rookie quarterback Jared Goff in favor of Case Keenum in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, with Sean Mannion as the primary backup.
Either way, it doesn't matter—avoid all Rams players in DFS except for mega-talented running back Todd Gurley ($7,800 DK; $8,900 FD).
Gurley should have his way with the 49ers.
