Week 2 Preseason Storylines to Watch
Quarterback Battles Galore
Saturday features a pair of notable quarterback competitions as the centerpiece to the action.
For the Los Angeles Rams, the conversation centers on this year's top pick, Jared Goff. The California product was permitted only nine pass attempts in the team's 28-24 win against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, and among those nine was an interception.
The Rams have never guaranteed Goff would start as a rookie, but it wasn't a good day for him, as Sean Mannion went on to toss three touchdowns on 25 attempts.
According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News, though, Goff will get more run with the first team this week:
More chances or not, head coach Jeff Fisher recently told ESPN.com's Alden Gonzalez that Case Keenum is "clearly ahead" of Goff, so it sounds like the rookie has a lot of work to do Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs to make ground in this competition.
The Denver Broncos might also have an interesting quarterback situation going on after Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler joined the Houston Texans.
Last week, veteran Mark Sanchez threw for 99 yards with a score and an interception on 13 attempts in a 22-0 shutout of the Chicago Bears. Perhaps not impressed, the Denver coaching staff announced Trevor Siemian will start Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers, according to Mike Klis of 9News:
For those who are out of the loop, Siemian was a seventh-round pick by the Broncos out of Northwestern in 2015. Don't forget this year's No. 26 pick, Paxton Lynch, will get plenty of run in the second half of Saturday's game like he did last week.
This isn't exactly the situation the Broncos had spent years planning for, but the coaches have decided to give everyone involved a chance at the gig. Whoever seizes the opportunity makes for one of the best storylines of the weekend.
The Battle of the Heismans
A preseason meeting between the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans wouldn't normally be the most exciting thing in the world.
That said, Saturday's game looks special, at least while the starters take reps, because a trio of Heisman Trophy winners could be on the field together.
One, of course, is Carolina's Cam Newton, the 2010 Heisman winner. The NFL MVP who threw for 3,837 yards and totaled 45 touchdowns last year attempted only six passes in his team's 22-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens last week. He figures to get a few more reps than usual, though, as the Panthers keep preparing for the regular season.

Marcus Mariota, the 2014 Heisman winner, passed for 2,818 yards and totaled 21 scores last year, a solid debut for a rookie in a rough spot. He attempted five passes last week in a 27-10 stomping of the San Diego Chargers.
Believe it or not, the biggest name when it comes to Heisman winners Saturday is Derrick Henry, the winner in 2015. The No. 45 pick this year exploded in the win against the Chargers, rushing 10 times for 74 yards and a score.
It was an incredible performance for a rookie, who took to postgame interviews with the air of a veteran too, per the Titans' official Twitter account:
Henry is supposed to split time with DeMarco Murray and Bishop Sankey in the backfield this season. All three scored against the Chargers. It will be interesting to see what the Titans decide to do if the Heisman winner keeps chugging along at this pace.
On a field that boasts three Heisman winners, Henry has a chance to steal the spotlight.
