NFL Odds Week 3: Last-Minute Betting Guide, Spread and Over-Under Analysis
Putting money on NFL games is a market, and like every market, timing is everything. Some underdogs have become larger underdogs while the week has gone on, while other lines are closer to toss-ups now. Others have completely flipped, like the New York Jets, who were home dogs at first but are now favorites over the struggling Philadelphia Eagles.
If you wanted to net the Jets, the opening line was for you. If you wanted the Eagles, this is the perfect time to strike.
I'll also recap my spread predictions for this week while updating the fluid lines, in case you have taken it upon yourself to wait until Sunday to give them a look. Additional information on the weather and injury reports will be provided, as some might overlook the impact that rain, wind, heat or replacement quarterbacks might have on Sunday's action.
I'll throw some over-under suggestions into the mix, as the public is rapidly overreacting on a week-to-week basis now. Take a deep breath and get ready. We're in the last week of September, and fall is flying by. Hold onto autumn while we still have the privilege to see Luke and Josh McCown play in meaningful games.

Over-Under Picks
3 of 5
Pittsburgh @ St. Louis: Under 48
When the St. Louis Rams are on, they have the best defensive line on the planet and can shut teams down. People are getting overexcited about Pittsburgh's scoring total last week against a below-average San Francisco 49ers defense that was coming off a short week. They're also overreacting to Le'Veon Bell's return from suspension.
People do realize that DeAngelo Williams has rushed for more than 200 yards this season already, right? How much more can you ask from Bell?
You're thinking of Ben Roethlisberger running packaged plays in a dome, while I see the Rams putting the brakes on this whole game, trying to slow it down with a plodding ground attack. At home, St. Louis is just a different team.
Kansas City @ Green Bay: Under 49
The Kansas City Chiefs can't play from behind with Alex Smith at quarterback. He just can't make the throws when the Chiefs are down multiple scores to get them back in the game. Because of that, expect the Chiefs to try to run the ball early and often, making the game shorter in the process.
With an extended rest from Thursday Night Football, Kansas City might be able to throw some complex concepts at Green Bay's offense too. Aaron Rodgers is near unbeatable at home, but the Chiefs have stars at every level of their defense, with Dontari Poe, Justin Houston, Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali and rookie stud Marcus Peters now stepping up as the team's top defensive back.
Philadelphia @ New York Jets: Over 45.5
The Jets defense is largely based around setting up the Cover 0 blitz. Cornerback Darrelle Revis is questionable, which means someone might have to come off the bench to play man-to-man coverage against the Philadelphia Eagles in place of him.
Here's the other thing: Chip Kelly's ideal situation would be facing one-on-one cornerbacks. People are underrating the Eagles, who just need to switch up their formation looks and go back to running a high-tempo offense to get back on track. The Jets have a short week after Monday Night Football to prepare for an adjusting Eagles team. Good luck.

Injury Report
5 of 5
Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans
In what is probably the biggest injury of this season so far, Drew Brees hurt his shoulder against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. While one hopes that he may not be out for long, the 36-year-old may be wearing thin. The New Orleans vs. Carolina lines has swung 4.5 points since Brees was ruled out. The Saints are in trouble.
Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago
Like Drew Brees, the injury to Jay Cutler is one of the more impactful ones in the NFL. Now, backup Jimmy Clausen must make a start in Seattle against the Seattle Seahawks, who are motivated by their 0-2 record. On top of that, the Bears' top receiver, Alshon Jeffery will miss the game to a hamstring issue. Chicago is a near three-score underdog everywhere, and for good reason.
DeMarco Murray, RB, Philadelphia
DeMarco Murray has fewer rushing yards than Marquise Lee, a sophomore receiver with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and is tied with Richard Rodgers, the Packers' starting tight end. He has a hamstring issue that will come down to a decision on Sunday, but at this point, he hasn't made much of an impact in 2015 anyway. With Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles in the backfield, the Eagles can replace Murray if he can't go.
Tevin Coleman, RB, Atlanta
Early on in the season, one thing has become apparent: Tevin Coleman is the most talented of Atlanta's running backs. The rookie is a great fit for the Falcons' zone scheme, as he resembles a young Ryan Grant. He's going to miss the battle in Arlington, Texas, though, with a rib issue. Devonta Freeman has skills, and this could be his opportunity to show the world, and his coaching staff, what he has.
Todd Gurley, RB, St. Louis
No one knows when Todd Gurley will return to action after an ACL injury ended his final season at the University of Georgia. He's going to be a game-time decision from here on out, but the Rams desperately need a star to emerge offensively. Right now, their offense rests totally on the shoulders of Nick Foles, which is never a good sign.
Luke Kuechly, LB, Carolina
Luke Kuechly isn't 100 percent cleared from a concussion he suffered against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. Carolina's pass defense needs him, as his ability in coverage allows for shorter drops for the safeties, but against a lackluster New Orleans offense without Drew Brees, the Panthers may not need him at all. This will likely come down to a game-time decision.
Ryan Shazier, LB, Pittsburgh
Ryan Shazier was Pittsburgh's first-round pick last season and is breaking out during his second NFL campaign. He's a freak athlete, and the transitioning defense is built for undersized linebacker to fly around to the ball. He's going to miss this week against the St. Louis Rams due to a shoulder injury. How will this Steelers defense look without him? It's a big question.
Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis
Everyone wants to talk about Andrew Luck's flaws thus far this season, but no one wants to admit that the Colts might have a bottom-five defense in the league. Their cornerbacks are dropping like flies, and Vontae Davis, who is probably their best defender, is the latest victim. He suffered a concussion against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football but has been cleared to play Sunday against in-division rival Tennessee.
Darrelle Revis, CB, New York Jets
The New York Jets have been able to play an aggressive style of defense, blitzing often with only man coverage behind the rush, but it's only possible because of their talented cornerbacks. Darrelle Revis, the top cornerback in the NFL, is battling a groin issue. If he's not ready on Sunday, it could affect the style of play the Jets have gone with in 2015.
