Realistic Draft Trade Possibilities for the Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace has already shown you he isn't afraid to make a surprising move if he thinks it helps the team. Could a trade or two be on the horizon for the Bears in this year's draft?ย
The Bears have a ton of holes on defense and have a need for a wide receiver and an offensive tackle. They could choose to accumulate more picks to fill these holes or decide to give up some picks and go after one marquee guy they are in love with.ย
We know from the past that the draft features a ton of trades. Pace could be looking to make a splash in his first year as general manager with a few moves of his own. The most popular and logical scenario would be to trade back in the first round.ย
Here are some realistic draft trade scenarios for the Bears this year. Give us your thoughts below and tell us what you think the Bears could do.ย
Bears Trade No. 7 for No. 12 and Future Picks from Cleveland
1 of 6
This year's draft is very deep at the wide receiver position. The Bears already have Alshon Jeffery, so while they are in the market to add another receiver, they aren't as desperate as a team like the Cleveland Browns.ย
The Browns are without Josh Gordon, who was suspended once again. They desperately need a reliable No. 1 receiver and could look to move up if Alabama's Amari Cooper or West Virginia's Kevin White is on the board.ย
A trade with the Browns would have the Bears drop back five picks in the first round but could net them an extra third-round pick or two. As the Bears look to rebuild the roster and find players who can play their new defensive style, more picks would certainly come in handy.ย
There will still be plenty of solid players on the board at the 12th overall pick. Washington defensive tackle Danny Shelton could still be there as well as Missouri edge-rusher Shane Ray, Alabama safety Landon Collins or Louisville wide receiver DeVante Parker.ย
Bears Trade No. 7 for No. 13 and a Third-Round Pick from New Orleans

The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons are division rivals who could be coveting the same prospect. It just so happens the Falcons pick right behind the Bears, which could prompt the Saints to want to jump them.ย
Kentucky's Alvin "Bud" Dupree is a fit for both the Falcons and Saints. Given Nebraska edge-rusher Randy Gregory's tweet about New Orleans andย Shane Ray's toe injury, the Saints could be all in on Dupree:ย
"Idk what the big deal about new Orleans is. Seems pretty boring to me lol wrong time of year maybe??

Bears Trade No. 7 and Future Picks for No. 4 from Oakland

There are two top defensive prospects who could go in the top five. Florida's Dante Fowler Jr. and USC's Leonard Williams would both be outstanding fits for the Bears.ย
It's very possible the Bears could covet either Fowler or Williams. If one guy goes to the Jacksonville Jaguars, then the Bears could get an itchy finger and pull the trigger on a deal with the Oakland Raiders.ย
Fowler looks to be a fit for the Jaguars at No. 3 overall, but Williams would still look great up front in Chicago. He's a fit in either a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme and would help solidify a defensive line that needs an injection of youthful talent. ย
The Raiders went defense last year with linebacker Khalil Mack. They really need a weapon for quarterback Derek Carr and could trade back and still get either Amari Cooper or Kevin White. Trading back to get more picks would be in their best interest, considering they have had a hard time adding players in free agency.
Moving up a few spots might cost the Bears a third-round pick this year or maybe even a future second-rounder. It's a steep price to pay, but what if they really covet a guy like Leonard Williams? ย
Bears Move Up for a Falling Quarterback
4 of 6
It's likely Florida State's Jameis Winston and Oregon's Marcus Mariota are going in the top two. It's also likely Bears quarterback Jay Cutler isn't the long-term answer for the team. Is there another quarterback after the top two guys the Bears really like?ย
After Winston and Mariota, it's a complete mystery as to where the second-tier quarterback prospects could go. We could see a few start flying off the board in the second round, or maybe a few could fall into the late third and early fourth rounds.ย
Colorado State's Garrett Grayson, UCLA's Brett Hundley and Baylor's Bryce Petty are the next-best options. Hundley could be the guy who slips the most, but he also has some upside if he can sit and develop.ย
If the Bears feel like they can turn a prospect like Hundley into a decent starting quarterback a few years down the line, then it's worth giving up a mid-round pick. Look for the late third or early fourth round to see if one of these quarterbacks is still there. That's the chance for the Bears to go from their fourth-round spot back into the third or very early fourth round.
Bears Trade a Mid-Round Pick for Dion Jordan
5 of 6
There are rumors swirling over the Miami Dolphins looking to trade former third overall pick Dion Jordan, according to Chris Wesseling of NFL.com. Could the Bears give up a fifth-round pick and take a chance on Jordan?ย
Jordan, a defensive end, was a standout pass-rusher at Oregon but has struggled mightily since coming to the NFL. He has only three career sacks in two seasons and violated the NFL's drug policy twice last year, which resulted in a six-game suspension.ย
This really comes down to whether the Bears think they can salvage something out of Jordan. If they think he can reinvent himself and be the player he was drafted to be, then giving up a mid-round pick is worth it.ย
Trading for Jordan allows the Bears to focus on a wide receiver and an offensive tackle in the first two rounds of the draft. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio likely can't turn Jordan into Aldon Smith, but maybe he can turn him into a situational pass-rusher.ย
Bears Trade Future Mid-Round Picks for Another Third-Round Pick
6 of 6
There's some good value talent in the third round of this draft. The Bears could find a corner, linebacker, offensive tackle or running back in this round who could start down the road.ย
It's worth a look to see if the Bears can give up a future mid-round pick for another third-round selection this year. Running back Matt Forte is entering the final year of his deal, and Ka'Deem Carey doesn't quite look like a long-term option.ย
University of Minnesota'sย David Cobb is a very underrated back in this draft. He's a tough runner who stays low to the ground and churns out yards after contact. He's the kind of guy who can handle a starter's workload and grind out tough yards in the cold winter months in Chicago.ย
