NFL Quarterback Power Rankings, Post Week 6

Ryan RiddleOct 14, 2014

Week 6 of the NFL’s regular season continued to prove that nothing is certain in football. Just when you think Russell Wilson is unbeatable at home, he falls to a defense that nobody had high expectations of before the season began.

Joe Flacco looked like a Super Bowl-winning quarterback on Sunday, and Brian Hoyer has the fans in Cleveland cheering for Johnny Football to stay on the bench. Who would’ve thought that would happen?

Carson Palmer and rookie Teddy Bridgewater returned to action after nursing injuries. One of these QBs found a way to win while the other fell apart under intense pressure.

Is Matthew Stafford just average without Calvin Johnson? Can Andy Dalton can still thrive without A.J. Green?

Check out the latest rankings…

Methodology

1 of 34

These rankings factor in several major attributes for the quarterback position.

Personal observation and opinion play a key role. A general section for film-review grades form a foundation, but the output of these QBs' most recent performances is what really sends them flying up and down the rankings each week.

Wins also give quarterbacks a slight boost in addition to their individual performances. The statistics used to help determine the ranking system are pulled from ESPN.comNFL.com and Pro Football Focus (subscription required), unless stated otherwise.

Stats that are factored in include passer rating, completion percentage, yards per pass, rushing yards per game, touchdown-to-interception ratio, fumbles lost and wins.

As the season moves on, the weighted influence from last year's output will be reduced by 25 percent each week.

When more than one quarterback plays for a team in one game, the QB with the most passing attempts is featured in the slide.

Note: Total QBR is a scoring system that assesses everything a quarterback does on the field. It is explained further on ESPN.com.

Also, Pro Football Focus grades every single play of the season to generate a cumulative point total, which weighs into the metric as well.

Of his 19 throws beyond 20 yards, Geno has only completed two passes with four interceptions, according to Pro Football Focus (paid site).

The Pats will be without their leader on defense, Jerod Mayo, which could give them hope to save their season. However, a win here would still be a long shot.

The Raiders are badly in need of their first victory.

30. Teddy Bridgewater, Minnesota Vikings

Teddy Bridgewater had three interceptions on the day, which was a stark contrast from his first career start. Of his three picks, one went off the running back's hands and the other came on a batted pass at the line.

It’s also important to note that the Vikings offensive line was a train wreck, as the rookie was sacked eight times. This is becoming a theme for quarterbacks who play the Lions.

Bortles didn’t have a perfect day, but he did manage to complete his first 300-yard passing game of the season. He also avoided multiple turnovers for the first time.

Dalton looked to rebound from a terrible loss against the Patriots when his Bengals took on Cam Newton and the Panthers. Both teams looking for their fourth win of the season—neither would get it.

Dalton threw two picks in the game for the first time all season but did manage an impressive 323 passing yards without A.J. Green.
