Jerod Mayo has been a defensive leader for the New England Patriots, but the team might have to compete without the star linebacker.
Mayo appeared to seriously injure his knee in the team's Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports noted the event as well as the impact for the Patriots:

The seven-year veteran saw his season end early last season after just six games and the defense was not the same afterward.
