Fantasy Football Week 5: Last-Minute Top 50 Wide Receiver Rankings

If you were expecting fantasy fireworks from the Week 5 Thursday night matchup between the St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals, you were probably disappointed.

Waiver-wire wonder Andre Roberts had an encouraging 10 targets on Thursday, but caught five for just 39 yards. Celebrated stud Larry Fitzgerald was targeted 15 times, catching eight of those for 92 yards.

The leading point-getter on the night at the wide receiver position, however, had one catch.

It was rookie Chris Givens of the St. Louis Rams, who hauled in a 51-yard touchdown pass from Sam Bradford.

Of course, you can’t start Givens now if you hadn’t already, but he can only hope (and work) to ascend to the ranks that a couple of guys who were rookies last year currently enjoy.

If you had the choice to start A.J. Green or Julio Jones, who would it be?

Happily, you won’t have to decide that unless you’ve got some extreme depth in your lineup—and you’re in a league where you can only start two wide receivers.

Because they’re my top two wideouts this week.

Domenik Hixon of the New York Giants has a shot to have a monster game in Week 5 now that he won’t have to vie with Ramses Barden for secondary attention from Eli Manning.

Hixon should be in the starting lineup as Hakeem Nicks will be out of New York’s meeting with the Cleveland Browns as well.

Without Joe Haden, the Browns may have to commit two people to stopping Victor Cruz, leaving Hixon with single coverage on the outside against a team that has given up an awful lot of yardage and scores to fantasy receivers.

Hixon already has a 114-yard game to his credit this season, showing that he has the ability to put together a solid overall game.

He probably ranks higher than you think he will in the list below.

1. A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. Miami Dolphins)
