The Houston Texans Ultimate 2012 Mock Draft

Nate DunlevyJun 7, 2018

All week, I've be doing an ultimate mock draft for each team in the AFC South. The goal is to come up with the best possible mix of realistic need-based picks for each team, assuming no trades.

On the clock today is the Houston Texans.

26th (first) Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

I think Wright would be the perfect compliment to Andre Johnson and help to bolster an offense that suffers a huge drop-off at the second receiver slot.

58th (second) Zebrie Sanders, RT, FSU

Sanders would help supply the Texans' biggest need: someone to replace Eric Winston. He's not a perfect prospect (hence the second round grade), but he's athletic and as he gains strength, he could become a fixture on the line for years to come.

76th (third) George Iloka, S, Boise State

Daniel Manning will be 30 next year, and that is a bad age for safeties. Iloka is a fascinating prospect and it's only a question of whether he's a more natural fit at free or strong safety. It's a passing league, and adding an athlete of this caliber in the third round would be a coup.

99th (fourth) Demario Davis, OLB, Arkansas State

Davis is raw, but could be the outside pass-rusher the Texans are looking for. He's huge. He's fast. He just doesn't quite have a spot on the field. Wade Phillips could turn him into a quarterback hunter, however, and show Davis his true calling.

121st (fourth) Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina

Jones is a beast at 6' 4" and 225 lbs., and would be a great counter balance to the slender Wright. By the late fourth round, teams are drafting on potential and Jones certainly has the frame to be an interesting target at the next level.

161st (fifth) Kevin Koger, TE, Michigan

Losing Joel Dreessen was a blow to the Texans, but Koger could help offset the loss. He's nursing a hamstring and missed his pro day, but that could be a boon if Texans scoop him up late. He's got potential to be a great redzone target with soft hands and long arms.

195 (sixth) Ryan Miller, G, Colorado

Miller is massive, and 6' 7" may be too tall to play guard in the NFL, but he has definite talent and size. You'd have to think that at this stage of the draft, the Texans could find a use for a big, talented lineman.

233rd (seventh) Julian Miller, DE, West Virginia

In the seventh round, teams are looking for guys who know how to do their job and play a role. Miller may be nothing more than a special teams body, but he's tall and fast could serve as backup 3-4 linebacker or he could add bulk to a 6' 3" frame and play end.
