2012 NFL Draft News: Seattle Seahawks Show Up Big to Watch QB Brock Osweiler

Sigmund BloomJun 5, 2018

Thursday, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, GM John Schneider and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell went to College Station, TX, to watch Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler reported that the Seahawks even crashed Tannehill's dinner with Miami GM Jeff Ireland and head coach Joe Philbin the night before.

Now, the Seahawks' top trio is at it again, according to the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers:

"

Seattle well-repped here: Carroll, bevell, Schneider watching Osweiler. Miami's Jeff Ireland too

As a former long time USC head coach, we can't ignore Carroll's previous success with Pac-10 players, and familiarity with the conference as a whole.

The Seahawks just committed $10 million guaranteed to quarterback Matt Flynn, but these actions suggest that they are still open to a different big-picture plan at QB.

The Tannehill visit might have been seen as a smokescreen to generate interest in the No. 12 pick should the Texas A&M star falls that far, but this visit can't be spun in the same fashion. The Seahawks are either seriously interested in doing due diligence on this year's QB class, or they are trying to make us think that for some unknown reason.

Of course, Miami GM Jeff Ireland's attendance is interesting too. Miami is the favorite to get Tannehill at No. 8, unless Cleveland takes him at No. 4 or another team trades ahead. This is exactly why Ireland has to have clarity on his views of second-tier prospects like Arizona State's Osweiler.

The Dolphins must come out of the draft with a young QB to groom as a future starter, whether they take him in the first round or not.
