St. Louis Rams: News, Nuggets and Notes at Noon (Wednesday Edition)
Welcome to Wednesday's St. Louis Rams "News, Nuggets and Notes at Noon," the one-stop destination for all major Rams updates and other interesting and relevant tidbits.
Today has been a slow day for Rams related reports, however, tomorrow will be anything but, as the Rams must accept or reject the February 1 proposal from the Convention and Visitors Commission to enhance the Edward Jones Dome.
The near consensus expectation is a rejection of that proposal and a counter offer by the Rams due by May 1.
St. Louis fans, I urge you not to freak out. This is just the beginning of the process. In negotiations such as these, first offers are rarely, if ever, accepted.
I also urge those desirous of a move to realize the same. A rejection of the CVC proposal means little, if anything, in the grand scheme of things.
As most of you know by now, I (and others) expect an eventual pro-St. Louis resolution to the lease.
In yesterday's chat, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch addressed the aforementioned lease situation, the 2012 NFL Draft, the just-completed NFL Combine and Sam Bradford, among other things.
As most of you know, the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine wrapped up yesterday in Indianapolis.
The defensive backs were the last group to show off their skills and display their athleticism before NFL scouts and various talent evaluators. For an assessment from walterfootball.com in regard to various DB's there, including consensus top corner Morris Claiborne, look here.
Claiborne ran a bit slower than expected, but the corner from LSU is still considered a lock to land in the top 10, if not the top five.
Claiborne could be a potential target for the Rams, especially if they ultimately trade down from No. 2 to No. 4 (with Cleveland), No. 6 (with Washington) or No. 8 (with Miami).
It has been reported by ESPN (as shared here) that St. Louis has decided to trade the rights to the No. 2 draft slot.
The previously mentioned Thomas posted a great column regarding Claiborne and the reasoning behind a theoretic interest by the Rams.
For Pat Kirwan's article regarding his conversations with NFL prospects at the 2012 NFL Combine, please see this from cbssports.com.
Another player the Rams could conceivably have at least mild interest in considering is Randy Moss. Moss will start visiting various unnamed NFL teams soon, according to this report from Jason LaCanfora of nfl.com.
From stlouisrams.com: It has been a magic month for Rams fan Cheryl Jones. The "ultimate fan" from Vancouver, Washington shared time in Hawaii at the Pro Bowl, among many other highlights, during January. Congratulations to Cheryl on the award and her memorable past month.
Finally, please keep the families touched by the Missouri, Kansas and Illinois tornadoes that struck last night in your thoughts and/or prayers. At least 13 people have lost their lives, according to this report.
The governor of Missouri, Jay Nixon, has already declared disaster areas in certain parts of the state. At least 33 were injured in Branson, a national tourist town, as storms struck several locations.
Please have a great (and safe) day, STL Rams Nation.
