Golden State Warriors Offseason Tracker: Latest Trade Rumors, Free-Agency News
The Golden State Warriors have an interesting offseason ahead of them with many things possible, although most are either unlikely or long shots.
They won't retain Jarrett Jack or Carl Landry, both of whom have signed deals elsewhere. But the addition of Andre Iguodala and the massive salary dump that cleared the contracts of Andris Biedrins and Richard Jefferson certainly has the Dubs looking like offseason winners so far.
After not only making the playoffs but competing with the San Antonio Spurs in the second round, the Warriors have to feel pretty confident.
A few solid moves along with improvement from the ranks of their young players and a healthy season could catapult them into the top-tier of Western Conference teams.
First-Round Pick Nemanja Nedovic Will Sign with the Warriors
1 of 9The Buzz
Marcus Thompson of the Contra Costa Times reports that Golden State's first-round draft pick, Nemanja Nedovic (30th overall), is working on a buyout with his European club and will sign with the Warriors.
Nedovic later tweeted the news that he's now "officially a Warrior."
Buying or Selling?
Buyouts can be tricky at times, but Thompson's declarative report leaves no option but to buy Nedovic's 2013-14 arrival.
The explosive 22-year-old point guard still has some kinks in his game to work out (namely shooting from distance and running the pick-and-roll), but he gives the Warriors the driving threat at the one that they lost with Jarrett Jack's departure.
Whether Nedovic will crack the Warriors rotation is still a bit up in the air. The team agreed to terms with free-agent point man Toney Douglas and has a number of capable ball-handling guards to spell Stephen Curry for stretches (Andre Iguodala, Klay Thompson, Kent Bazemore).
Still Nedovic's athleticism will be a welcome addition to Golden State's perimeter. If he shows enough in training camp, he could force Douglas into an insurance role.
Warriors Sign Jermaine O'Neal
2 of 9The Buzz
UPDATE: Tuesday, July 9, at 2:45 p.m. ET by Dan Favale
Per ESPN's Marc Stein, the Warriors have agreed to a one-year deal with big man Jermaine O'Neal.
He joins a front line that already includes Andrew Bogut, Festus Ezeli, David Lee and Marreese Speights.
---End of update---
According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Warriors are duking it out with the Dallas Mavericks over the services of veteran big man Jermaine O'Neal.
Buying or Selling?
Golden State needs a backup center more than ever, as Andris Biedrins is now a member of the Utah Jazz and Festus Ezeli will be out until sometime in December after offseason knee surgery. Plus, it's not as if Andrew Bogut has been particularly durable.
O'Neal makes sense as an inexpensive addition who'll help prevent David Lee from playing too much small-ball center.
Toney Douglas Agrees to Join Warriors
3 of 9The Buzz
Jared Zwerling of ESPN reports that Toney Douglas has agreed to contract terms with the Warriors.
Buying or Selling?
Definitely buy this.
Andre Iguodala will still be Golden State's secondary playmaker behind Stephen Curry, but Douglas could still prove valuable off the bench.
Not known for his playmaking, Douglas has shot 37 percent or better from downtown in three of his first four NBA seasons. He's also a tenacious defender, someone with quick hands who can force a lot of turnovers and create opportunities for the Warriors in transition.
Jarrett Jack's departure left a hole the Warriors needed to fill, even after the acquisition of Iggy.
With Douglas on board, consider it filled.
Warriors to Sign Marreese Speights
4 of 9The Buzz
According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Warriors are closing in on a one-year deal with forward Marreese Speights.
Buying or Selling?
We can't do anything other than buy this.
After the Warriors lost Carl Landry to the Kings, they had a hole to plug. Speights is no stranger to coming off the bench and routinely providing backup minutes at power forward.
Like Landry, he can put points on the board up in a hurry. His inside out game makes him an attractive piece, especially for a gunning team like the Warriors, but his suspect defense is something his interior peers need to cover up when he's on the floor.
Defensive deficiencies aside, Speights is a sound signing for the Warriors. He may not see much action if they elect to run smaller lineups, but he's a valuable insurance policy to have on the sideline nonetheless.
Andre Iguodala Signs with Warriors
5 of 9The Buzz
UPDATE: Monday, July 8, at 9:35 a.m. ET by Dan Favale
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Warriors are in discussions with the Nuggets and Jazz about a three-team trade that would land them Andre Iguodala.
Signing-and-trading for Iggy as opposed to inking him outright would give the Warriors more financial flexibility when they go to sign their first-round draft pick, Serbian Nemanja Nedovic, and preserve their midlevel exception.
For the Nuggets, it would give them a $12 million trade exception and allow them to acquire Randy Foye (via the Jazz).
---End of update---
Iguodala has signed a four-year deal with the Warriors, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
The deal is for a reported $48 million over four years which was made possible only by a trade of Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins and Brandon Rush to the Utah Jazz.
Wojnarowski also reports that the Denver Nuggets offered a four-year, $52 million contract to Iguodala before he ultimately decided to sign with Golden State.
Buying or Selling?
Buy the Warriors as a top seed in the Western Conference playoffs for years to come.
Already with a talented young base to build around, the adding of the veteran Iguodala will only push them higher in the standings. This also means that the Denver Nuggets, owners of the No. 3 seed in the playoffs a year ago, are likely to see their win total drop off significantly.
Golden State Is Shopping David Lee
6 of 9The Buzz
After another solid season with the Warriors, David Lee is being shopped around the league, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Warriors showed interest in a package from the Toronto Raptors centered around Andrea Bargnani and in the Portland Trail Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge.
Bargnani was traded to the New York Knicks before the talks could grow legs, and Portland quickly rebuffed Golden State's advances.
Wojnarowski also reports that the Warriors value Lee and are simply testing his value on the market.
Lee still has three years and $44 million left on his current contract.
Buying or Selling?
It's likely that Lee could be wrestled away from Golden State for the right price, but it would take a solid package in order to do so.
Wojnarowski's second report about Lee tells us most of the story, as teams gauge the interest about players constantly in the NBA.
Lee does have huge defensive deficiencies, so if the Warriors were able to land Aldridge, they would have to jump on the chance.
There's no harm in asking.
Warriors Won't Retain Carl Landry or Jarrett Jack

UPDATE: Saturday, July 6, at 5:25 p.m. ET by Grant Hughes
Jarrett Jack has agreed to a four-year, $25 million deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, per Marcus Thompson of the San Jose Mercury News.

UPDATE: Saturday, July 6, at 4:40 p.m. ET by Jesse Dorsey
After renouncing Landry, the Sacramento Kings swooped in and signed the backup big man to a four-year deal believed to be worth between $26-27 million, according to CBS Sports' Ken Berger.
--End of update--
UPDATE: Friday, July 5, at 5:45 p.m. ET by Grant Hughes
The Warriors had to renounce their rights to both Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry to complete their big trade with the Jazz. That means the Golden State can't exceed the cap to re-sign either Jack or Landry, per Thompson . In other words, it's time to kiss the Dubs' biggest bench contributors from last season goodbye.
Buying or Selling?
Jarrett Jack has signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, while Carl Landry is now with the Sacramento Kings.
Brian Scalabrine to Join the Coaching Staff?
8 of 9The Buzz
The Warriors are attempting to add Brian Scalabrine to their coaching staff, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
Mike Malone (Sacramento) and Bob Beyer (Charlotte) were both lost to other teams, so they're looking for a few guys to add.
Buying or Selling?
Scal was in talks with Tom Thibodeau and the Chicago Bulls about joining their coaching staff last summer but opted instead to join ComCast SportsNet New England and stretch his television legs.
Now it seems he's ready to get back into the NBA after only a year out of the league.
He's met multiple times with the Warriors, so it seems this is likely to happen unless some other team makes him an offer.
Warriors Pick Up 2014-15 Option on Coach Mark Jackson
9 of 9The Buzz
The Golden State Warriors won't have a lame duck on the sidelines next season.
According to Antonio Gonzalez of the Associated Press, the Warriors picked up the 2014-15 option on head coach Mark Jackson's contract, removing any potential uncertainty that might have distracted the team during this upcoming season.
Buying or Selling?
This has to be a buy.
Jackson has more than earned a little stability after leading the Warriors into the second round of the playoffs last season. Plus, assuring players and the coaching staff that Jackson won't be coaching for a contract extension next season is a good way to keep the focus off of the financial side of things in a critical 2013-14 season.
It's still somewhat unclear whether Jackson has much to do with the team's strategic decisions, but as a motivator, few can touch the ordained minister.
Jackson will preach on for at least two more years.
