Angels Fans Chant Goodbye to Arte Moreno in Video After Historic $4B Sale to Stan Kroenke

The Los Angeles Angels' ownership change won't be official for at least a few more months, but some of their fans are already bidding adieu to Arte Moreno.

A chant of "Goodbye, Arte" started during Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the New York Yankees.

The Angels announced Tuesday that Moreno struck an agreement to sell the Angels to Stan Kroenke, who owns franchises across multiple sports leagues including the Los Angeles Rams and Arsenal FC. The deal is expected to go through in early 2027.

For a lot of fans, Moreno can't exit soon enough.

The 80-year-old bought the Angels in 2003 on the heels of their World Series win. The team remained competitive early into his tenure, reaching the ALCS in 2005 and 2009.

Ever since that ALCS run, though, Los Angeles has been stuck in a state of perpetual mediocrity. Its lone playoff run resulted in an ALDS sweep at the hands of the Kansas City Royals in 2014.

The Angels have wasted the prime years of Mike Trout and couldn't capitalize on having he and Shohei Ohtani on the same team. The blame fell squarely on Moreno's lap as he's the one constant through all of the futility.

Ownership has also allowed Angel Stadium to lag behind other MLB venues, and renovations will cost into the hundreds of millions.

Installing a new owner doesn't always mean change for the better. Just ask fans of the Baltimore Orioles and Miami Marlins, two teams that enjoyed an early honeymoon period before the same problems emerged with new leaders at the top.

In the case of the Angels, it's hard to imagine how things can much worse than the status quo under Moreno. Kroenke can also point to the recent championships his other teams have won to reassure the fanbase.

There's unlikely to be an immediate turnaround once the Kroenke era kicks off in 2027, but signs of improvement should begin to emerge.
