2012 NFL Draft: Andrew Luck Ready for the NFL
By all accounts, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck is a lock to be chosen with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
That is, of course, if Luck chooses to leave school. He has another year of eligibility left, meaning he could stay at Stanford if he so chooses.
But according to ESPN's Trey Wingo, Luck has made up his mind. NFL fans should be very pleased with his decision:
Well, there goes the drama. Luck pulled a fast one on everybody when he chose to return to Stanford for the 2011 season, but there will be no such antics this year. Luck is headed for the NFL.
And like Wingo hinted, the Indianapolis Colts are on the clock. At 0-12, they have the inside track at the No. 1 overall pick, and the only way they're missing out is if they win a couple of games down the stretch.
You and I both know that's not going to happen. The Colts are awful, and they're going to need a lot of luck (no pun intended) to win just one game.
Assuming the Colts do end up with the No. 1 pick, and assuming they do draft Andrew Luck, their future is going to be bright. Luck will get to learn under Peyton Manning for a couple of seasons, which could only help. We're talking about the best quarterback prospect in generations learning from one of the best quarterbacks of his generation, which almost isn't fair.
Regardless of where Luck ends up, he's making the right choice. There's very little left for him to prove at the college level, and his stock will never be higher than it is now. Instead of going back for one more year and risking disaster, he might as well take the money.
The NFL will be glad to have him.
