If you are struggling to find suitable starters this week, our “Fantasy Football Start ‘Ems” for Week 8 will help you identify which players are worth taking that risk on during the dreaded bye weeks.

Philip Rivers (San Diego Chargers) @ Kansas City

Rivers has not been particularly good for much of this season, leading to some speculation he is playing through an injury. He had an especially poor effort against the New York Jets in Week 7, throwing for just 179 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the game.

The Jets obviously have a tough pass defense and things should be significantly easier this week against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are coming off a strong effort in Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders as they intercepted quarterbacks Kyle Boller and Carson Palmer six times and allowed just 177 yards passing.

Kansas City had allowed 12 passing touchdowns prior to last week, though they did hold Rivers without a touchdown pass back in Week 3 while intercepting him twice. Chargers tight end Antonio Gates did not play in the previous game but he returned to action last week and should make an impact this week.

Fantasy football owners may be down on Rivers right now, but he is a solid bet to rebound this week as he should be plenty motivated by having something to prove.

DeMarco Murray (Dallas Cowboys) @ Philadelphia

Murray had 25 carries for a Cowboys’ franchise record 253 rushing yards against the St. Louis Rams in Week 7, and he also added a touchdown for good measure. With Felix Jones (ankle) having been ruled out for this week against the Philadelphia Eagles and Tashard Choice just released, the rookie from Oklahoma looks likely to get another big workload this Sunday in a second straight favorable matchup.

The Eagles have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing running backs (23.8 per game) as well as 5.3 yards per carry to the opposition thus far.

It is unrealistic to expect another 200-plus yard rushing day from Murray this week, but he still makes for a legit RB1 for Week 8 with nice upside.

Marques Colston (New Orleans Saints) @ St. Louis

Colston had seven receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts last week. Colston now has 19 catches for 285 yards and three touchdowns over the last three games after returning from a collarbone injury and being eased back into action for one game.

Another favorable matchup is coming in Week 8 against the St. Louis Rams, who have allowed a league-high 11 touchdowns to opposing wide receivers so far this season and 26.7 fantasy points (second-most in the league) to the position as well.

Colston is the most fantasy-relevant Saints wide receiver right now since he is healthy, and belongs in lineups as a top tier WR1 this week and until further notice.
