Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Demaryius Thomas and 5 WRs to Grab Now

Professor BushOct 20, 2011

These next few weeks in fantasy football leagues are when we separate the pretenders from the contenders.

With multiple teams having their bye weeks, you might have some holes to fill out your roster. If wide receiver (WR) is one of them, here's a list of five widely available players that might help you out, either just for a few weeks or for the remainder of the season.

All of these players are available in over 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

Jeremy Maclin, Victor Cruz, Wes Welker, DeSean Jackson, Hakeem Nicks, Stevie Johnson and Michael Crabtree will all be on the bench this week. So if you have not grabbed a WR replacement, you need to do so now.

Nate Burleson

1 of 5

Nate Burleson of the Detroit Lions was targeted last week 10 times and scored a touchdown. This week he is up against the Atlanta Falcons defense that has given up a fair amount of passing yardage.

The veteran receiver still has juice left in his tank and could help you out this week.

Davone Bess

2 of 5

Davone Bess of the Miami Dolphins could be their top wide receiver this week. Brandon Marshall is hampered by a quadriceps injury so his status for Sunday is uncertain.

Yes, I know Matt Moore is the quarterback. But the Denver Broncos don't have a great pass defense, so some reasonable production can be expected from Bess.

Torrey Smith

3 of 5

Torrey Smith had a 51-yard reception last week against the Houston Texans after being shutdown by the New York Jets the prior week.

He has to share the stage with Lee Evans and Anquan Boldin, but that three touchdown performance against the St. Louis Rams has me wondering why is he still so widely available. If you can snag him in your league, do it now.

Demaryius Thomas

4 of 5

Demaryius Thomas was a first round draft pick of the Denver Broncos. Several injuries have kept him off the field last year and this year. He is set to return to the lineup this week against the Miami Dolphins.

With Tim Tebow now at quarterback for the Broncos, and the Dolphin's secondary a little thin due to a hamstring injury of Chris Clemons, Thomas might be poised to have a breakout performance. And with trade of Brandon Lloyd, there is a chance that Thomas could become the Bronco's top-targeted wide receiver.

Doug Baldwin

5 of 5

Not too many Seattle Seahawks players get starts in fantasy football leagues, but Doug Baldwin deserves a look.

He caught eight passes and one touchdown last week against the New York Giants. A repeat of that against the Cleveland Browns this week is not out of the question.
