NFL Trade Rumors: Will Dealing Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis Land Colts Luck?
Speculation has risen that the Indianapolis Colts may move Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis before the trade deadline. The move would ultimately validate concerns that teams may actually be taking the "Suck for Luck" race seriously.
People don't want to believe that a bad team would try to make themselves worse in order to put themselves in a better position for the future. However, that's exactly what the Colts would be doing if they traded away their best offensive and one of their best defensive players.
Wayne and Mathis aren't in their prime, but having them on the field puts the Colts "in danger" of winning games. Getting them out of Indy would send the Colts a couple of picks and make them the runaway favorites in the Luck sweepstakes.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
It's sad and borderline unethical, but it's the only way the Colts can close the Peyton Manning era and begin a new era that carries equal promise. With a winless record at this point, the Colts know their season is a hopeless cause.
They can hang onto Wayne and Mathis and allow them to retire in Indianapolis without getting anything for them. Doing so would likely allow them to obtain a few wins and allow two guys who were instrumental in bringing Indianapolis a championship to finish out their careers with the team.
On the other hand, dealing them takes away Curtis Painter's No. 1 receiver and steals away Dwight Freeney's right-hand man. The benefit for any player who may be on the trading block is that they could be traded to a contender, who could be just a player or two away.
The Pro Football Talk report states that speculation suggests Wayne would go to the Buffalo Bills, while Mathis would go to the New York Jets. Both of those teams have a ton of talent and could ultimately find their way into the playoffs.
This deal could be a win-win situation. The Colts would be setting themselves up for future success, but Jim Irsay is going to be bombarded with questions about him scrapping this season for Luck.
