The Chicago Bears have Super Bowl aspirations with their elite defense, but I don’t believe this current team can get there without some major adjustments. The Bears have no depth at any position and have been decimated by injuries. This team needs to look for the best available free agents, and sign them.

The weakest part of the Chicago Bears team is their offensive line. The league knows it and continues to send blitzes from every angle possible. The loss of their leader Olin Kreutz has definitely hurt this team even more. With first-round pick Gabe Carimi out for a while with an injury and former first-round pick Chris Williams in and out of the lineup, this offensive line needs help.

The receiving corp has been marginal at best and puts no fear in opposing defensive coordinators.

The defense is solid and are at a win now stage as the defensive studs are aging, but need depth at every position in case of injury.

I am currently going to examine the best available free agents for the Bears and whom they should sign in order to make it to the Super Bowl.

Right Tackle Jon Stinchcomb

Jon Stinchcomb was a former second-round pick for the New Orleans Saints in 2003, and made the pro bowl in 2009. Last season he often injured and had surgery on a torn quad muscle. He was then cut during training camp and has officially retired.

The guy is only 32 years old and still has some years left in him. The Bears need to shore up the offensive line so why not pull Stinchcomb out of retirement to solidify the line.

The line is going to have more problems if Carimi is out for a long period of time.

Right Tackle Flozell Adams

Flozell Adams has had a solid NFL career, and although he is 36 years old, he would still be an upgrade over most of the Bears offensive linemen.

Adams was the starting right tackle for the Steelers in last year's Super Bowl, and still shows signs of playing at a high level.

The Bears should sign Adams to a one year contract.

Offensive Tackle Max Starks

Max Starks has played almost every position on the line for the Steelers, and he has had his fair share of ups and downs. This past summer he was released and is still looking for a team.

Starks is only 29 years old and has plenty of years left ahead of him. He is more then capable of bringing solid pass protection, and is an above average run blocker.

The Bears should look to sign Starks on a multi-year contract that is really low in salary and high in bonuses.

Offensive Tackle Nick Kaczur

Nick Kaczur isn’t a known commodity, but has been a solid tackle for the Patriots for years. He missed all of last year with an injury and was cut this summer.

He is currently looking for a team and the Bears could use him as a backup to the current offensive linemen.

Kaczur would also have a chance to supplant one of the starters this season. His body should be well rested from the long lay off and ready to go.

Offensive Tackle Leonard Davis

At one point, Leonard Davis was once considered the best lineman in the league. He had numerous dominant seasons for the Cardinals and the Cowboys, but recent declining years and his high salary warranted a released from the Cowboys.

Davis is 33 years old and can still have an impact on a team, especially the Bears. He could also play a little bit of left tackle if need be.

Leonard Davis is a behemoth of a man, and can still put fear into opposing defenses.

Center Shaun O’Hara

The Bears made a huge mistake in letting center Olin Kreutz go. He was the one constant and reliable player on the Bears line. The Bears shifted guard Roberto Garza to center, and it has been a little shaky at times.

The Bears should look to sign the veteran Super Bowl Champ Shaun O’Hara to be the captain of this line. Garza would then move back to his natural position, and the offensive line would have a natural leader.

O’Hara made the Pro Bowl three times, including last season so the Giants cut him strictly because he was making to much money.

Linebacker Lofa Tatupu

The Bears have a solid line-backing core in Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs, and could be even stronger with the addition of Lofa Tatupu.

Although Tatupu has been declining in recent years, playing alongside the Bears two Pro Bowl linebackers could possibly elevate his game.

Tatupu has solid speed for the Bears Cover 2 schemes and he his very smart. He is still young and would be an upgrade over Nick Roach.

Outside Linebacker Julian Peterson

When Julian Peterson entered the league for the 49ers, he was an absolute beast. Those days have fizzled out, and he has been a journeyman in recent years.

He is still a solid pass rusher so it puzzles me that he hasn't been signed.

If the Bears could sign Peterson to a one year contract, maybe it would light a fire in him and he could get back to his old form.

Free Safety Renaldo Hill

I know the Bears just signed Brandon Meriweather, and he is a solid safety who is learning the Cover 2, but the Bears should add depth to the position. Chris Harris and Major Wright are solid options, but it looks like they will have nagging injuries that will keep them in and out of games all season.

Renaldo Hill has been a solid safety throughout his career. He is a sure tackler and great in run support.

He was recently released by the Broncos, and the Bears to look to sign him to a one year deal.

Quarterback Trent Edwards

The Bears need a solid backup quarterback because Jay Cutler will probably not play in all 16 games this season with a shaky offensive line. The obvious choice would be David Garrard, but he is currently looking at possibilities at where he could start. He would not sign with the Bears to be Cutlers backup.

So the next best option would be Trent Edwards. He was currently on the Raiders roster until they had to make room for Terrell Pryor.

Edwards will probably never be a starter in this league again, but he is young and has some experience as a starter.

If Cutler were to ever go down, then Edwards would be solid in managing the game. He is definitely an upgrade over Caleb Hanie and the rookie Nathan Enderle.

Wide Receiver Donnie Avery

The Bears undoubtedly have the weakest receiving corps in the game. The Hester experiment isn’t going so well, Knox looks great on one play and looks lost on another, and the Roy Williams signing is currently up in the air. Cutler needs some serious help.

The release of Donnie Avery this year by the Rams was quite surprising and harsh. His first two seasons in the league have been solid, but he was out last year with a knee injury.

Avery is a solid route runner who has an instinct for the ball.

It has been one year since the injury, and if he is completely healed, then the Bears should consider him.

Wide Receiver Randy Moss

Call me crazy, but I think the Bears should consider Randy Moss. He still has the speed to burn pass any secondary, and when he’s motivated, he would be a great weapon for Cutler. The only problem is that he plays when he wants to. The Bears have a similar player in Cutler. Cutler whines and plays when he wants to.

Moss’ deep play ability will allow Forte to run wild, and help the other receivers open up more. A Cutler and Moss connection would be similar to when Cutler was with the Broncos and he had Brandon Marshall.

Wide Receiver Terrell Owens

I put another aging diva wide receiver on this list. Terrell Owens is the ultimate “me” player, and he is coming off of a significant knee injury. Even though he is 37 years old, Owens is a freak of nature. Last season he almost put up a 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games. I don’t see this injury affecting him too much, and I believe he can come back to form.

If Owens has a tantrum, I can actually see Cutler putting him in check. Owens should be ready to play in a few weeks, and this Bears team could use him.

And if any of you guys have seen his show on VH1, you would know that this man still wants to play. He is motivated to make money and win a Super Bowl.

The Chicago Bears are a borderline playoff team. They have an elite defense and a below average offense. With a few additions during the season, the Bears can be in the running for a Super Bowl berth.
