Kevin Kolb Traded to Arizona Cardinals: 5 Reasons to Believe He Will Excel

Bill RobbinsJun 7, 2018

It's official. Kevin Kolb has been traded to the Cardinals for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick as well.

The Cardinals are getting a backup QB who is poised to show that he can get the job done as a starter in this league.

Fortunately for him, it looks like he will get that opportunity, assuming that starting job will be handed to him.

Here is why Kevin Kolb will excel with the Arizona Cardinals.

A Fresh New Start

1 of 5

It became clear pretty early that Kolb was never going to be the long-term answer at QB for the Philadelphia Eagles.

After Donovan McNabb left to go to the Redskins after the '08 season, some thought that Kolb might take over for the Eagles.

Well, it never happened.

A change of scenery could really do some good in this situation for the former University of Houston star.

It Will Be His Team

2 of 5

For his entire career, Kevin Kolb has had to sit behind QB after QB, waiting for his turn to finally become the starting QB.

His Eagles career began with backing up veteran Donovan McNabb, and it ended with Kolb playing second fiddle to the electrifying Michael Vick.

Now, that has all changed.

He will go into Arizona as the man to beat for the Cardinals' starting QB spot, and he is determined to not let anyone get in his way this time.

Ken Whisenhunt

3 of 5

Not many QBs will have the luxury of working with a great offensive mind like Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

However, Kevin Kolb will have just that when he suits up for Arizona this season.

Whisenhunt might not have the best reputation as an NFL head coach, but there is no question about his offensive knowledge of the game.

Kolb should only benefit from his coaching and knowledge as he moves forward as an NFL quarterback.

A Young, Talented Offense

4 of 5

I know that the Cardinals traded away starting receiver Steve Breaston to Kansas City yesterday, but there is still some talent left in their offensive cupboard.

Led by third-year RB Beanie Wells, the Cardinals will have several weapons to help Kolb become successful during his time with the team.

Second-year man Andre Roberts should give Kolb some help with the passing game, and veteran Larry Fitzgerald is still one of the best wideouts in the game.

The Cardinals offense might not be where fans want it to be right now, but adding Kolb instantly improved this unit for next season and beyond.

He's Kevin Kolb!

5 of 5

Finally, the time has come for Kevin Kolb to lead a team to greatness.

He will be stepping into a difficult situation in Arizona, considering the Cardinals finished last in the AFC West last season with a 5-11 record.

However, Kolb will be more determined to get the job done now that he will likely be an NFL starter for good.

It was clear that the Arizona Cardinals needed Kevin Kolb and Kevin Kolb needed the Arizona Cardinals.
