NFL Free Agency: Matt Hasselbeck Says He Will Not Re-Sign with Seattle Seahawks

Max BertellottiJun 2, 2018

As confirmed by ESPN and NFL Network reporters, Matt Hasselbeck will not re-sign with the Seattle Seahawks. His era in Seattle, highlighted by a trip to Super Bowl XL and over 29,000 passing yards and 174 touchdowns, seems to be over.

Matt Hasselbeck will very likely be pursued heavily by the Tennessee Titans, who hope to bridge the post-Vince Young era and the Jake Locker era.

Other suitors include the Minnesota Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers, an unsettling thought for Seahawks fans.

Hasselbeck going to the 49ers would be very harmful for Seattle, seeing as Hasselbeck is the most tenured QB in the NFC West and knows every team's defense inside and out. San Francisco would seem to be a HUGE step ahead of Seattle if Hasselbeck can be acquired.

The Seahawks likely will pick up more than a few quarterbacks over the next few days. Charlie Whitehurst is the only quarterback on the roster so far, and his 65.5 QB rating is not something that makes Seattle fans happy at all.

The Seahawks have been rumored to be looking into a trade for Kevin Kolb, signing Tarvaris Jackson and even signing Matt Leinart.

Matt Hasselbeck has not signed yet with any team, but the Hasselbeck era in Seattle seems over.
