NFL and the United States of America: Where Is the Leadership?

Just when we thought men were behaving as men and not numb-skulls, a stubborn and emotional testosterone-filled group puts a damper on the optimistic outlook. 

And in other news, the NFL and the NFLPA have yet to come to an agreement either.

Where is the Leadership? 

To the NFL and the NFLPA: It is the NFL’s and the NFLPA’s patriotic duty as an American organization, and as appreciation to the fans (a.k.a the people who pay the bills) not to rest until the lockout has ended. 

This should have started two years ago when it became clear a restructuring of the CBA was necessary. Your “leadership” has dropped the ball. This was not something that should have waited until the last minute, but it did. As a result, the Hall of Fame game has been canceled.

Thanks to the NFL and the NFLPA, Canton and the communities around it will lose millions of dollars that would have been generated for their economy. Not really an ideal situation when your country and fellow citizens are suffering through a horrible recession. 

I don’t care about your bruised ego. Yes, the owners made a bad move, but frankly, no one but you guys cares at this point. This whole things was started by greedy owners, but now you guys are equally responsible for the extended length. All of you should have fixed this two years ago, a year ago, six months ago, not now.

To the American “leadership”: Republican, Democrat, Independent, whatever, you all have a patriotic duty to the American People (a.k.a. the people who pay the bills) not to rest until the Debt Crisis has been resolved.

This duty began when you raised your right hand and swore an oath to serve. Many of you forgot your oath later that day. It now appears that all you care about is re-election and pleasing the lobbyists that are bankrolling you. Nothing tough gets fixed anymore. Your leadership has really dropped the ball.

NFL, the NFLPA, and the American “leadership”: Wake up. As a man who loves his country, I beg you to put yourself aside, put your pride aside, and do what needs to be done now.

The United States of America IS the greatest country ever to exist on Earth. It became great on the back of American Patriots. From the unwilling to the willing. From the past to the present. From George Washington to great patriots like Pat Tillman. A man who left millions of dollars and an easy life behind, only to bravely walk into battle and give it all up for his country. It is men like that who made us who we are today. 

We need our "leaders" to learn from Pat Tillman. A man who lead with action and who did the right thing not for himself, but for the benefit of the United States. That is the kind of leadership we need right now. In the NFL, and more importantly, in Washington, D.C..

Yes, the United States has a lot more to worry about than football. But football, from an economical and psychological stand-point, is good for America. If they would get there act together soon, it could be a good start for this country.

Maybe the NFL and the NFLPA can lead by example for the other guys in D.C..
