MLB Trade Rumors: 5 Players on the Trade Block Who Will NOT Be Traded
With the trade deadline looming, rumors continue to swirl around Carlos Beltran and where he might end up. However, there is a handful of players on the trade block, that will not be traded come July 31st.
I love the trade deadline talks, rumors, and speculations because like a mock draft it makes the fans feel as if they are an armchair GM who has the team in the palm of their hands. Fans will beg their teams to go after a big bat or a fan may beg their team to deal their old tired arm of a pitcher. Either way it is a wonderful stir for debate.
I will give you five players who will not be wearing another uniform other than the one they currently own this year.
Erik Bedard, Seattle Mariners
1 of 5The former ace for the Baltimore Orioles, now on the rotation with King Felix and the Seattle Mariners, Erik Bedard will not be traded.
Bedard has been injured quite often over his career, mostly with the Mariners, which will cause other teams to be hesitant when asking about the lefty.
The Mariners will not be able to trade Bedard this season due to the fact that he will not be able to make a start until around July 22-24, depending on when he returns from injury. If the Mariners try to rush it, there is a strong possibility further harm could ensue.
Teams will not give up players for a possibly good pitcher who has a history with injury.
Jamey Carroll, Los Angeles Dodgers
2 of 5The Los Angeles Dodgers need to get rid of some gaudy contracts, but Carroll will not be one who is shipped out of Los Angeles.
Hiroki Kuroda, the Dodgers pitcher, is getting more heat in terms of trade bait, but he has a no trade clause and refuses to go to an east coast team. The Dodgers are more focused on getting Kuroda out of L.A. then they are with Carroll, being that his contract is heavier.
The Dodgers may not want to ship Carroll out due to the fact that he is hitting .298 on the year, he has been very good at getting on base and scores a ton of runs (for the Dodgers, anyway).
Alfonso Soriano, Chicago Cubs
3 of 5The Chicago Cubs do not do a lot of things correctly, but they will not mess up and give Alfonso Soriano away. Soriano has expressed his willingness to waive the no-trade clause to go to a contender, but he is not going anywhere.
This is due in part to his hefty contract. No one is going to eat $18 million per year through 2014 for half a seasons worth of work and then work out another contract to pay the outfielder.
Soriano always seems to pop up when the trade deadline comes around the corner, which again has occurred, but once again there will be no trade.
Jose Reyes, New York Mets
4 of 5Despite many rumors, Jose Reyes will not be leaving New York. Carlos Beltran has been the focal point of every trade scenario going on with Jose Reyes right there with him.
Reyes has been a topic of debate for his entire career, he gets injured often andhe has a huge contract, but he is also having a record year in terms of hitting. Even though he was injured once again, the Mets understand now that they cannot give away a talent like Reyes'.
Reyes seems to have made amends with Mets staff in the last week, reiterating his willingness to win and compete.
Ubaldo Jimenez, Colorado Rockies
5 of 5Ubaldo Jimenez is not going anywhere. Period.
Jimenez had a tremendous season last year, followed by a terrible 2011 season. Jimenez is 6-8 with a 4.00 ERA, to date, and that is not what the Rockies expected from the right hander.
The Rockies are not prepared to turn their back on their ace who led them in wins. Woody Paige of the Denver Post wrote a terrific article on exactly why the Rockies will not deal him.
THe Rockies are having a rough year, but they do not do the unthinkable and get rid of ace Ubaldo Jimenez.
