Kansas City Chiefs: Five Games Chiefs Fans Should Look Forward To Watching
Chiefs fans are eager for the lockout to end. The Chiefs have received three prime time games this regular season.
Last year, Chiefs fans were stoked to see that they received a Monday Night Football game at home on opening week. The result satisfied football fans in Kansas City as they made a statement in Week 1 by defeating the San Diego Chargers and eventually capturing the division title.
As reigning division champions, the Chiefs will have a more challenging schedule in 2011. There are five games Chiefs fans should look forward to this season. These five games provide exciting matchups and could put fans on the edge of their seats.
The list will go in chronological order. Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know!
Chargers at Chiefs on Oct. 31
1 of 5Last season, the San Diego Chargers had high hopes in winning the AFC West for the fifth consecutive season. They wanted to start the season off with a bang by defeating the Chiefs in their newly renovated stadium.
But in the end, it was the Chiefs that came away with the win and the division. For the second year in a row, the Chargers will visit the Chiefs for another Monday Night Football match. This time, it will be on Halloween night.
While the Chiefs are reigning division champions, many believe the Chargers will bring back the division title to San Diego. With Philip Rivers on the roster, the Chargers are still the team to beat in this division.
This will be the final regular season meeting between the two teams. The Chiefs know the Chargers are their biggest threat.
The Chargers were second in the AFC West and one game behind the Chiefs. The Chiefs will need to win this game in order to compete in the division.
Chiefs at Patriots on Nov. 21
2 of 5The last time the two teams met, the Patriots suffered a big loss when Tom Brady sustained a torn ACL which forced him to miss the season. Matt Cassel stepped in and led the Patriots to victory against a team he would eventually join.
While Brady is one of the elite players in the league, he struggles the most when he is under pressure. Reigning AFC sack champion Tamba Hali hopes to record his first career sack against Brady next season.
If Hali is successful in applying pressure in this game, football fans may be surprised and could witness a closer game than they expected.
This will be the first time Cassel, Scott Pioli and Mike Vrabel will return to Gillette Stadium since the three became part of the Chiefs franchise during the 2009 offseason. This will be Romeo Crennel’s second visit to Gillette Stadium.
Steelers at Chiefs on Nov. 27
3 of 5The Chiefs will play on Sunday Night Football for the first time since 2006 and will host the event for the first time since 2003. The Steelers represented the AFC well in the Super Bowl and will have a chance to seek revenge after being stunned the last time they played the Chiefs.
In 2009, the Steelers went into Arrowhead Stadium to face a two-win Chiefs football team. In the end, the Chiefs beat the Steelers in overtime.
Despite the fact that the Steelers were without Troy Polamalu, the ending result was still a surprise to many football fans as the Chiefs were expected to get stomped.
This time, two division winners will go at it in the national spotlight and stakes could be high for both teams this late in the season.
Packers at Chiefs on Dec. 18
4 of 5The Super Bowl Champions are coming to Arrowhead Stadium. But this time, the Green Bay Packers will be led by Aaron Rodgers instead of Brett Favre.
As the Packers are the reigning Super Bowl Champions, this game will be the biggest challenge for the Chiefs this season.
Rodgers has made a big impact since taking over as the Packers quarterback and hopes to bring a second Super Bowl trophy back to Green Bay.
The last time these two teams squared off was in 2007. The Chiefs lost to the Packers, as Brett Favre defeated all 31 teams while playing for the Packers. The loss was the first of 12 consecutive losses that carried over to 2008.
The Chiefs have many young and talented defensive players, and this game could be their biggest test.
Raiders at Chiefs on Dec. 24
5 of 5The Chiefs and Raiders renewed their rivalry last season. No one expected the Chiefs and the Raiders to be the only two teams to lead the AFC West last season. The Broncos and Chargers were the two teams many expected to see fight for the division.
The Chiefs have not beat the Raiders at Arrowhead since 2006. In 2007, the Raiders defeated the Chiefs and snapped a 17-game losing streak against divisional opponents with their previous divisional win coming in 2004.
The Chiefs hope to have control this time around when the Raiders come to Arrowhead for the regular season home finale.
The Chiefs and Raiders rivalry can only get better. The two fans are both passionate about their teams and would love to see the two play for the division. If the two teams continue to improve and play well, this divisional matchup could be flexed to a Sunday Night Football game.
